Bank charges just got a letter this moring saying ive been £22 because i was £6.80 short in my bank for a feckin direct debit! I there anyway i can argue/fight to get it back? or will i have to don my spandex and launch my banck manager off the top turn buckle???
god dont talk to me about flipping bank charges. have a search for a thread i made a while ago, i think it was called 'overdraft advice'
Is this with Barclays???They love to shaft me like, Its not my fault I always forget about direct debits
pissed off with barclays at the min, i changed a standing order to go out on the 12th instead of the 10th online a couple of days before cos i didnt have the funds until the 12th. the cunts still paid it out on the 10th and also the 12th taking me overdrawn and chargin me £22. anyone know how easy it is to get this back, ill try if its a phone call but cant be arsed fucking about with a drawn out process. cheers
depends what type of barclays account you have mate, my overdraft fees got sorted over the phone and took 10 days to return to my account, but i have a student additions account, not sure the crack for regular accounts!
im on a graduate additions at the min i think. ill give them a bell and find out the crack, cheers mate!
Re: Bank charges looks like you went into your personal reserve that was created on 18th of August this year. u get a charge of 22 quid if you go over the limits set to you and you have a 4 full days before they charge you another 22 quid.
you can't claim them back in the branch unless it is a bank error or fraud... everyone was sent letters about the personal reserve so the charges were better explained & therefore you can't claim them back.
i think the personal reserve is gash and it's disgusting how they charge every 4 days however i have a daft overdraft limit and im always well clear of it, i've been quite lucky with bank charges, im sure only about one or two charges, and a quick call has always resulted in a refund.
i can understand people going overdrawn once every soo often, but if youre not grown up enough to be able to manage your own money and go overdrawn all the time, then to be charged is more than reasonable, every bank has specifically laid out their stance on charges since the whole charges who har so you can't say you dont know. apparently natwest know they are going to lose the court case though so have so much money sat aside and if asnyone asks for charges are just refunding them straight away
Banks can give goodwill gestures (the bank i work for does). It obviously depends on the circumstances. Michael - you could get that back. You would have to do a bill payment in error form, and state that you changed it to go out on that date. They may put that down as a bank error. Either pop into branch or give them a ring. Barclays tend to have foreign people answering, and they never listen. Chase - depending on what happened, you could get it back. If youve never had one before then your probs more likely to get it back, based on account conduct. If youve had loads then you more that likely wont. Natalie - I no what your saying, but some people can have a bad month, and receive hundreds of pounds worth in one month, which then affects them next month. Some people arent aware (i dont no how) that they can cancel a direct debit anytime they want, and arrange a different payment method until they are sorted. TBF Barclays are alright regarding charges as they only charge £22 every 5 days you use your personal reserve (its just a way to make sure they can charge you really). Other banks may have charged you £35 for the transaction and £28 for using an unauthorized overdraft.
ah feck.... not happened in the last 2 - 3 years but used to be quite often when i was a scrounger around 2005
I'm a bit gutted, didn't keep an eye on my money and overspent christmas shopping, 2 gym payments are coming out of my bank tomorrow and I'm £5 short. I thought the easy solution would be to phone the company who deals with the direct debits as they're normally open on a sunday, and get them to set it back a day, but they've been closed since the 18th and don't reopen till tomorrow morning when the payment comes out lol I'll get a £35 bank charge from halifax, and the company themselves charge £20 for a missed payment lol merry fucking christmas
If it goes through, which it might, u'll get a £28 unauthorised overdraft fee. Instead of your £20 missed payment from the gym.
