    Bank Charges

Anyone had any success in reclaiming their bank charges? I got my bank statements from the past 6 years this morning and just spent half an hour highlighting all the charges. I then put them in the calculator on the Martin Lewis thing, and the total including interest is £3,276.59

Ill be well chuffed if I get most of that back like! :D

Is there a deadline for claiming your bank charges back? Im aiming to clear my two overdrafts this year before I claim back.

No deadline as such, but you can only claim for up to 6 years back.

don't the charges relate to when you've paid for something and it's come out of your account when there's no money in it, so it's your fault though??

can someone explain to me how it works.... i don't geddit but would like some money back!

    :D

Consumer Action Group website has everything you need - pro forma'd letters you just need to put your details in.

Read it carefully before you start, but thousands of people have claimed all their charges back from the past 6 years :D

I've been meaning to write off for ages now. So I rang last week and they said they can't order 6 years statements over the phone  , I would need to visit a branch. So I did today and they seemed like they didn't want to get them done for me. They said I need to write a letter requesting the statements. I had a bit of an argument with the woman because this isn't how Lloyds used to do it nor is it how Barclays does it. It looks to me that they've set up this new process to deter people from getting the charges back. She was blabbing on about how I'll be charged and I said I know I will, it'll be like a fiver or something wont it? She said it could be quite costly.
Then I remembered I read in the paper the other day that banks are using underhand techniques to stop people getting these charges back, like threatening with bank account closure and forcing people to pay bank overdrafts/loans straight away, also charging £5 per page for the statements.

I wrote the letter there and then in the branch and gave them it, I bet i don't hear back.

if any1 does this DO not take there first offer, always take it further and you will recive every penny back..

ive only been charged twice, so its pretty pointless claiming it:(

Consumer action group tells you how to get round this perfectly.

The maximum you can be charged is a tenner, which you recover with even 1 charge reclaimed.

Aye a nah, I felt like skapping the dopey cow.

The banks must be hating this though.

2002-2005 were bad years for me handling my finances. I'm thinking I'll be owed over a grand like. I havent been charged once in the last 18 months, I'm ever so proud. :angel2:

Get it sorted dude, it'll pay for a holiday and that.

Anyone got any idea how long the process has taken them from when they sent there first letter until they got the funds?

Several months probably. There's a very small chance you could end up in court, so read everything carefully before you start. It's safe and effective, but you need to know what you're doing
