AVG help Two lots of advice needed please: 1. i just ran AVG & it found 2 of these: Java/ByteVerify viruses but didnt remove them for some reason? How do i do it? 2. is the free version of AVG only for a limited time or not? Someone ive just spoken to says theres it yet the page i got it off doesnt say anything like that cheers
Re: AVG help Java.ByteVerify is an exploit, not a virus, which is why it didn't remove it. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-011.mspx has all the info you'll need AVG isn't limited time at all. After ir goes through a couple of versions it stops supporting older versions, but all you need to do is d/load the newest version of the software (once every year or so)
It's a full program, not as many features as commercial av programs, but does it's job well enough. And it's very good. And it's not Norton.
Re: Re: AVG help dod9y i'm not as technically minded as you tbh, i read that (i already have all the updates) but it hasnt sorted my problem? I now have 3 of these and am non the wiser as to how to get rid of them
Re: Re: Re: AVG help Reet, did you get the names of the infected .jar files? Summinck along the lines of "classload[1].jar" or similar? (AVG will show summinck like C:\blahdeblah\blah\blah\classload[1].jar:\summinck.class - classload[1].jar is the file, summinck.class is a file within it - a bit like a zip file containing other files) I'm taking it you can't find these files to delete them? Reet, try the following: 1. Click on My Computer to open it. 2. Select "Tools" from the menu on top. 3. Select "Folder Options". 4. Select the "View" tab. 5. Scroll down and Select "Show hidden files and folders". 6. Unselect "Hide extentions for known file types". 7. Unselect "Hide protected operating system files". 8. Click Apply and Ok. In AVG, from the AVG Test Center 1. Open the Test menu at the top of the window. 2. Select "Complete Test Settings" 3. In the File Extentions area, select "Scan all files", click the OK button. 4. Repeat it for "Select Areas Test Settings. Do another scan and see if it deletes the files this time. If it doesn't, go yourself to whichever folder it is that the infected .jar files are in, and delete them. Btw, if they're in a temporary internet folder, just delete that folder. Hope that's clear enough, cos it's way past my bedtime good luck
Re: Re: Re: Re: AVG help Never got a chance to do it, just followed your instructions, will post if it sorts it mate
Re: Re: Re: Re: AVG help certainly have now!! was loads of horrible album art that i knew nowt about :spangled: cheers dod9y do i have to put those settings in my computer back how they were?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AVG help No worries Probs for the best if you re-check "Hide extentions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files". Leave AVG as it is now.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: AVG help He'd have to have the brain of a walnut to even go near an attachment without scanning it first, or even to open an attachment in an e-mail anyways... And leaving the extensions there means that he can accidentally rename a file's extension and leave it useless. It's best to have them hidden.
