    Arthur Russell

    One for the House/Disco heads...

While I fully expect this thread to die on it's arse I'm keeping an open mind. Anyone else a fan of him? Reason I ask is because there's a new comp out of his best stuff (it's tops!) and if you weren't aware already of his stuff, you maybe should be.

anyone who put together Is it all over my face, Wax the Van and Let's Go Swimming deserves maximum props!

Simon yet again your music taste is unquestionable.... gold star!

He was possibly one of the most intelligent producers of all time, from his weird rock fusions to his disco funk... the guy was a genius... Deffinatly one of dances pioneers.

Love all his stuff from his early lose joints stuff like is it and pop ur funk to his signiture work like in the light of the miracle and treehouse.

suprised jambon and the house heads haven't commented.

Jmabon theres a new cd of his out on soul jazz records... its a collection of his better tunes - I suggest you buy it.

download the walter gibbons mix of "schoolbell/treehouse" - this track personifies his style... He constructs songs more like a composser or a jazz musician - extremely minimalist introducing very loud statements then quickly removing them while working on one constant theme throughout the track... its hard to describe what he does - but its extremely subtle and very cool :D

I'll get slated for this but I always thought our boy tom produced predictable disco  don't get me wrong I fucking love his stuff but think russell is in another league... you should really check his stuff.... a true pioneer :D

I wasn't slating him in the slightest but as far as pioneering a sound... Arthur Russel can be creditted for more or less creating the paradise garage sound, he could be seen as the forefather of house music... where as Tom Moulton was just a producer, at the time he was the number 1 Disco producer, but I'd never describe him as pioneer - the disco sound can't be credited to him, infact not much can, he made very good predictable disco tracks... take Doctor Love and Dance For Love - it isn't just their names that sound similar ;) his sound wasn't innovative - just damn good :D

I know I'll get slated for this but its my sixpence ;)
