Im after a painting/print of a photo but I want it in the style below. Does anyone know of a website, place or whatever that I could get something like that done at? Even if its just a computer image and I get it printed elsewhere. Or even know what type of effect thats called and I can research. Thanks :)

Download GIMP and use the 'cutout' filter.

Yep, it takes 2 seconds to do it yourself! Then you can use photobox.co.uk or whatever to get it printed.

Compare with the £500 it will cost you to buy exactly the same thing in a gallery

Errrm, I've just checked and it's possible I've lied slightly

GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop - the filter in Photoshop that does this is called 'cutout' but I'm not sure if it made it across to GIMP...

Obviously you'd have to pay if you wanted Photoshop ;) or I'm sure any number of people on here could do it for you

    Sorry

The effect can be described as either

    Rotoscoped / Rotoscope

    or

    Cellshaded

.... They arent entirely like those kind of effects, but its a similar kind of thing (since the movie was rotoscoped film, with CGI added with a cell shader type effect on it).

    Might help?

    Oh, you're laughing then.

Load the picture, click on the Filter menu -> Artistic -> Cutout

Just play with the sliders until it looks how you want it to.

A quick shot at an image..

    The Original..

    Modified

This was done using the cutout filter.
Its easier to vectorise graphics in Illustrator though.. by manually selecting the indivdual colour sections and shading them.. but it would take time.. :)

There is a little shop in eldon square in newcastle that do this to any picture on a CD you take in, and they put it on a canvas for you.

not sure how much they charge
