Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed in a press conference that he is considering taking legal action against Sunderland's Dan Smith.

The Black Cats defender was guilty of an ugly looking foul on Abou Diaby on Sunday at The Stadium of Light, in an incident that left Arsenal's midfielder nursing a fractured and dislocated ankle.

Smith was immediately brandished with a yellow card for the indiscretion but Wenger was not satisfied with the punishment and is now threatening to take further action.

The French tactician believes Sunderland all too frequently stepped beyond the laws of the game and was scathing post-match, particularly in reference to Smith.

Although the Sunderland starlet has since offered an apology, it appears his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Enraged, Wenger stated that he felt Smith should be suspended for the length of time it takes Diaby to recover from what is a serious injury.

Meanwhile, Wenger continued to hand Sven Goran Eriksson a much-needed pick-me-up when he confirmed Ashley Cole will start for Arsenal on Thursday night against Manchester City.

Aint the first bad tackle and wont be the last. Arsenal have mad some pretty bad tackles in their time under Wenger. Sure Van Persie made a 2 footed challenge this season on some player.

If thats the case you wont be allowed to tackle in football anymore because everyone will be getting sued

Bad tackles happen all the time, you can't prove he menat to actually hurt him, so how can they sue and expect to win?

i dont think there was malice, just a young lad making a mistimed tackle... and it was 1 footed too i think so not like he did one of those blatent 2 footed tackles.

no one can prove it was on purpose and it is a contact sport afterall, plus arsenal have commited their fair share of dodgy tackles.
