    Armed Police

Do you reckon the police should all be able to carry some sort of firearm. like say a 9mm or somet, obviously having to pass rigorous training before hand.

i say this cos one police woman is dead now because she got shot attending the scene of an armed robbery, her colleague has also been shot.

Its more complicated than just giving them a gun.

Whos to say when and when you cant fire it? People will get shot and end up suing the police etc for damages as they can claim they werent going to use the weapon etc...

Then i doubt the police would be able to use them untill they get fired upon by which time its too late.

I was all for the way that Brazilian got shot fair enough it was a mistake but because of the terrorism i didnt complain but look at how much fuss it caused..........times that by about 100 if police had guns and could use them it would be a media free for all.

i said proper training, not just showing them where the safety is and how to shoot it i mean when to expose it at the right time and how to incapacitate.

to be honest id feel canny shittified having to attend the scene of an armed robbery with a truncheon and a can of mace. and the vests they wear can barely stop a kitchen knife, never mind a bullet.

the better option i reckon is stun guns for all coppers and alot more armed responce teams.

Im not too sure about it like, on one hand it would stop many a scallie from committing crimes, but the police (in the north east anyway) are already 'too power mad' as it is, i fear it would send them over the top

*edit* i agree about the stun guns tho - less damage to be done to innocents n the like :D

    Re: Armed Police

Police take it upon themselfs to kill people every month for having dangerous objects like Table Legs and sometimes for being Brazillian. Who gives a fuck if one of them gets killed, not me.

They conducted a poll a while back within the police and alot of the police would leave their jobs if they were issued with firearms.
It's not practical, i know a lad whos a copper in manchester and they are told not to attend any situations where a gun is involved, the armed response unit deals with it. This is the way it should be and it will be a sad day if they do ever arm the police.

Shut up you fucking wanker, do you have the bottle to do a job where you might end up dead simply for doing a job?

Defo more complex than just handing out guns. if police get guns, gangsta's get bigger guns, police get bigger guns and so on and so forth, until we all kill each other.

Hugely simplified and generalised but that about sums up my arguement.

Gun control is the way forward.

Personally i think that more money should be spent on these units, imo there's not enough of them to go around in times of real emergancy, which if terrorism keeps going the way it is in this country these escalated situations would have to be dealt with by 'everyday joe' officers which could and most probably will lead to more casualties/deaths needlessly (sp???)

where these officers defiantly unarmed I cant find anything saying they where. They where responding to a armed robbery so I find it hard to belive they where sent unarmed to such a incident...

I dotn really see the need in it either because how often do you see news storys about policemen or women being killed?

We have one of the lowest death rates for police in the world so why do we need to give them guns.

Its a shame whats happened to these two police officers but its only really a massive story because its very rare that it happens.

It says they were shot, Doesnt say that they werent themselves carrying fire arms.......They might have been armed police responding to the crime and then got shot.

Tru dat, if they were armed response it would have mentioned it. They would also not put themself in such danger as perhaps a normal pc would when attending a crime.

Im not saying they were armed response im saying its a posibililty like pike said.

Either way its shockong but i still disagree with giving our police guns but these questions will invariably get asked when these things happen.
