I do think you should have to opt out, rather than opt in, as so many people are too lazy to bother registering.

I'm registered. I am also planning on leaving the bits that aren't good for donation to medical science (ie for medical students to cut up etc). Some people get really squeamish about this kind of thing, but it's not like I'm going to need it any more, so if it can help some people to learn then why not?

I believe in the idea that people can opt to donate their organs.

But i find it a f00king disgrace that we can have our internal organs automatically 'opted in' to be cut out our bodies unless we proactively opt out first.

Another nail in the coffin of personal freedoms - nothing is safe from big brother who wants to control every aspect of our lives, ..... even our livers!

... on the flip side - none of my organs are of any use to anyone these days, so i think im sweet ;)

I think alot of important people in history would shake their heads in disbelief at the things we almost take for granted these days.

That's not the case at the moment.

Personally I think people not opting in is a disgrace (unless it's against their religion, which is another argument in itself).

Who gives anyone the right to pre-emptively 'baggsie' someone elses internal organs.

I think its a disgrace that anyone feels entitled to them!

No-one has per-emptively 'baggised' anything. I just think it is hideously selfish to deny someone something that you no longer need that would keep them alive.

Organs being opted in to previously voluntary schemes (or people wanting them to) ..

Terror laws allowing people to be held without charge for long periods of time ..

Laws preventing the right to protest outside parliament ..

Government ministers being excluded from the freedom of information act ..

Road charging, taxes on home improvements ...

    .... Its a communist/totalitarian dream!

Anyways - ranting aside. I BELIEVE in donation - But not involuntary donation ... i think thats SICK SICK SICK - and the whole 'well you can opt out' spin is an insult to idea of personal freedom and liberty to me.

How about i pre-emptively take all your disposable cash to give to charity .... theres people die'ing in africa you know!

Or how about your spare room, how about we opt you in to a 'spare rooms for the homeless' scheme where it can act as a drop in centre .... unless you opt out of course.

Personally, i think its another honourable cause, being used as a smokescreen for another round of pragmatic policy making that further erodes an individuals personal liberties.

Terror Laws: correct for this day and age, get your head out of your backside. If they are proven to be innocent then they shoudl be compensated (not necessarily with money).

    Protest outside parliament: see above

Freedom of information act: dont know about this to comment

Road Charging: Why should I have to put with the fumes and noise that your car gives out? You should have to pay for the priviliege of polluting the world.

The government has already decided anyone without an ID card wont be allowed to leave the country (lovely 'optional' scheme, with a little bit of 'encouragement' eh),.... whats to say that all these laws being passed (1 every HOUR since labour came to power) arent just another byline into more control over individuals.
