Apple Mac & Logic Pro! Any suggestions on the best Mac to start producing with, starting a music production course in September & really wanna get a Mac & Logic Pro before starting. Thinking about one of these - 1GB memory 160GB hard drive1 8x DL SuperDrive ATI Radeon X1600 graphics Does anyone have any ideas on where to get Logic at cheapest price? Might not be necessary tho as I was told when starting the course we can get it for £250 discounted price!
Good for you mate, i studied music technology @ Newcastle college for 4 years & got a HND out of it, best thing i ever done Any P.C will do to start out with, beleive me, all you need is a decent souncard & at least a GIG of RAM, you wont have enough knowledge till your a year or two into the course to stetch a P.C to it's full capability. You want to be more concerned about spending your coin on a decent multi-track recorder & synth
No worries mate, just PM me if you need any advice when your setting it up. I know alot of people say you MUST have a MAC for producing music but thats like saying you MUST have a ferrari to drive! Like i say, keep all your money for a decent synth & multi-track recorder. What you planning on using Cubase or Reason?
Not sure yet mate, I have only had a little taster of using Logic and thats it. Will be sure to sort something out September time when I get bit advice from college & that...
At the minute i work for the D.W.P as an accounts administrator but i've got a degree in music technology witch i studied a couple of years ago. I also produce trance & techno when i get the chance, but family life takes priority! Why like?
You'll develop a preferance for one or the other mainly depending on what type of music you are planning to produce. Cubase & Reason are highly professional programs & a college course is needed to get to grips with them both. I've been using Reason & Cubase for 6 years now & i still find new things or ways to tweak certain riffs or stabs from time to time.
Ive been 'trying' to produce music for about 5 years now and Ableton is only one ive been able to make great progress in. I got my head round Reason pretty well but i just thought the synths got a bit samey. The routing options in Ableton seem to be pretty limited but thats something that can be sorted out with a bit of Rewiring with Cubase?
Ableton is very easy to get to grips with, alot of producers class this as a novice package, witch it is but it is still a good foudation to start off with dont get me wrong. Reason has alot more to it than meets the eye, to truley exploit this excellent software takes alot of time. I found alot of stuff out by co-producing some tracks with some freinds witch really helps as you bounce ideas off one another & find out little tricks & glitches that can make a huge difference. Being self taught on a package like Reason or Cubase may seem ok but to get really good results your best off studying it at college where you get shit loads of professional guidance on them
I wouldnt consider Ableton to be novice at all. I think people get this impression because the interface is so good , hence its easier to use. If anything, Reason is basic because its an 'as is' package rather than being expandable through plugins (obviously excluding Rewire)/ Although some of the new Reason 4 modules look class
You dont need to go to college but you definitely learn alot of new knowledge from other people who know the speel
I'm currently running reason 4 at the moment & your right the modules are tremdous, not just that but theres other plug-ins coming out for it soon excluding Rewire. Dont get me wrong Ableton is a decent package but like i said all i used at uni was Reason & cubase witch most professionals swear by
i love my mac,id never go back to a pc........... but i true producer uses a tr909,a 303 and a 4 track
Re: Apple Mac & Logic Pro! I run logic pro ona 512 memory, 160 gb harddrive like. goes slow when iv got about 20 tracks going with effects but otherwise its sound. Wait till you have started the course then phone the apple line to buy logic or order it off the higher education website. I got mine for about £290 with the higher education discount. Never looked back. DO NOT LET THEM SELL YOU IT FOR £430. keep teeling them all your class mates got it for £280 and theyl pick the right discount for you.
No they dont. Some producers dont even touch sequencers. Some still use oldskool atari's. I think cubase is a right farce for doing the most basic of things, but obviously its like food, you prefer what your brough up on.
Defo, theres no right or wrong programme.....as long as you can work it and make it sound mint then who cares
