Anyone need to regrow any lost limbs? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7354458.stm That is quite amazing really
Im sure I had an email the other day about this. The title was 'Want to mAke her GrOAn with your biggEr rOD?'
It is an amazing step in medical progress but: "I put my finger in," Mr Spievak says, pointing towards the propeller of a model airplane, "and that's when I sliced my finger off." what a donkey!!
This doesn't make sense to me, but then again it's a weird topic. Why can newts regrow limbs but not humans? People have played with extracellular matrix for years but don't make anything as complex as a finger so I think this would probably need to be done a bit more scientifically to convince people.
Reading another story some were saying that fingertips could regrow on their own however it did say that they would not be able to get the feeling back. Think it needs so more serious in-depth research into it but if its as good as it looks the possibilities are mind blowing!
That have been able to regrow limbs for some years using stem cell research, at our very own Centre of Life in Newcastle, however the government has not legalised it due to ethical issues. They have also been looking to incorporate the gene that codes for regrowth in star fish and put into mammals.
