not as simple as that, i THINK drives are tied to the consoles - might be worth finding out what drive you have first : http://www.digitalworldz.co.uk/198546-determine-what-drive-you.html

then buying a replacement laser of ebay , if the problem is it's just not reading disks. lasers are an easy swap

yeah you have to flash the console with the drive number (iv got the help thread primed)

u got the bits to do it? some of the drives, the liteons, look like u need a probe or something... looks a bit of a ball ache

where can i get this one fixed thats got a duff drive? any ideas? its out of warrenty

A few of them do, looking at the mongs who work in them though mate I dunno If i would trust them

find out what type of drive it is first - liteon, benq, hitachi, etc - then see how much a replacement drive is on eay - THEN we'll look how easy it is to flash / repair - then i might do it!
