Anyone good at Chemistry? I've come across a small problem in some work I'm trying to do. If anyone's any good, whack your name down and I shall ask you Ta Allie.
Nothing, I need to know which two elemental atoms have hte same electronic structure, which theoreticaally, shouldn't be possible. I read somewhere that it's Lithium and Beryllium, but I'm not sure if htat's correct, or if it is correct, why this is the case...
*Has horrible flashbacks* AS Chemistry was too much for me (got a B - just) so I doubt I'll be much help..!
I think it may be. It's a question within a question. The exact question is: 6. The Magnesium ion, Mg2+, has lost two electrons. The Sulphide ion, S2- has gained two electrons. A. What is the full electronic structure for the magnesium ion and the sulphide ion? (I've done this) B. Which elemental atoms have the same electronic structure? Surely the way that's worded means they can't be on about ions, as it specifically mentions atoms, and they're two different things! I'm gonna bitchslap my Chem. teacher! Also, that's exaclty what Li and Be are mate, that's why I'm confused! However, some website I was on before, which coincidentally has the exact same questions on as there are on this homework sheet, had them both listed as 1S2, 2S2 :spangled:
I'm not sure, we haven't done that yet. It's a twat, I've found everythign else on this homework sheet ridiculously easy, bar that question
I'll try that, cheers fella. Oh, also. What's the electronic structure for a Hydrogen ion? Surely hydrogen only having one electron, ionisation will mean this is now zero, yes?
That's always how I found Chemistry.. absofuckinglutely hated it. I would've died if I'd had to do the full A-Level. Some of it was piss easy, but then when I didn't understand something, I REALLY didn't understand it. Try Google, or go with the geek above!
To be honest mate, I've loved Chemistry so far this year! I need a full A Level in it too though, and I need an A in it, so that has to be a good thing. CHeers for your help peeps!
Yeah I grasped that, I was on about a different question! Writing electronic configurations for ions, one of whuch was H-, which is surely zero? What did you get in Chemistry Andy, an A?
