    Anti Virus software

    Its Cookee.

Stephen has AVG (free version) as software on his comp, but it just wont update itself. Its been like this for ages and just times out all the time. Ive followed the FAO bit on their website but nothing works. So Im thinking we'll have to take it off and use another one.

Anyone have any suggestions on good anti virus software he can use please? :)

    Cheers

If you can't get AVG sorted, i'd reccomend a naughty copy of McAfee.

Sure dodgy will know of another good free one though!

Not the best idea to get hooky av programs - if you can get the crack/keygen/patch, so can the software companies. You'll find that it only works for a coupla weeks...

@ Cookee - make sure you've got the latest version of avg free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

If you still have problems updating, firstly check your firewall settings to make sure avg is still allowed to connect. If it's avg's servers timing out, then you can just download the priority updates from here whenever you need them: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/24/lng/us/tpl/v5 - save the .bin file somewhere you can find it, then double click on the avg system tray icon, highlight the update manager box, click the properties box in the bottom right. Uncheck the box saying 'do not ask for the update source', click apply, click ok. Then click update, then click folder and navigate to the folder with the update file and click ok. It's a pain but worth it in the long run.

Ok, so Ive re-installed it and it seems to be working. BUT the "Internal Virus Database" box is still saying its out of date, but its saying there is no available update. At least its not timing out now :)

Did you manually install the priority update file like I described above?
