Always Room After reading the trophy twins thread http://www.promisealways.com/messages/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8965 Will the Always residents be playing a more anthem/accessible type of house music in the future? The Spence
trophy twins were class....it was good to see the always room busy.... was top when every1 was up there...
Personally I don't think that PGR play that far away from what the Trophy Twins did on Friday.... We perhaps don't play quite as "Obvious" for the whole night, but try to create a set that isn't just anthem after anthem. "Anthem bashing" isn't appreciated down stairs so why should it be the norm upstairs??
must admit, have to agree. Classics nights are wicked, but too much of the same thing and all that you don't just have to play what people know to make clubbing fun and exciting, we all wouldn't be this far down the road if that was the case. def. think the trophies should come back though, a lot of people really like what they do which at the end of the day is the most important thing
yeah they're are successful, had some pretty good nights at Retro in the past, but could you not argue that they do similar damage to club communities in a similar way to that of the big one-off club events? In that it's more about a quick fix as opposed to something that is about developing roots and getting down to sorting out things for the long term. After all, how can only playing old or commercially successful tunes be benefitial to the development of dance music on the whole? It makes it far harder for newer tracks to break through and push things forward. It's ok once in a while, but you couldn't do it all the time - like you shouldn't do anything the same all the time. If that happened in the mainroom for example, it would only work for so long. People on the dancefloor in the short term, but if there are no new sounds filtering through for people to latch onto and make their own, the majority would sharp get bored and look for something new themselves. How many of you lot have tunes that are special to you and your friends at Promise as opposed to some 'classic' which gets caned everywhere? The integity of the music is as important a part of small club communities as the people who are a part of them. It's good to look back, so long as you don't stay there.
agree, u play a load of stuff people aren't into or feel no connection with, you're gonna clear the floor...
yeah but there's a massive difference between the sound of PGR and Always PGR keep the underground vibe without beeing anal and the style of music is easily accesable!!! Always was not!!
The aim of PGR is to make people dance and have a good time. We don't claim to be underground, overground or whatever else, clubland is a serious business but we try and make people smile through the tunes we play
