christ! if this actually comes off i'll be very happy about it. unproven, yes, but at least it's a little lift at a time when nothing else is positive around the club.

I think Shearer has been quite clever here, he knows the likelyhood of them staying up is slim, and if they do stay up with him there he will be a bigger hero, if they do go down he will have a fresh start with a nice platform to build on (i.e. Roy Keane?)

he's also much more likely to get the players on his side than pig's ear, and is probably a lot more likely to convince certain players to stay.
