Alan Oliver spills beans At a football dinner with Steve Howey in whickham on monday, Alan oliver (chief Sports Editor evening chronicle) revealed that Bobby Robson approached him to help him get rid of Shearer during his reign. He wanted him to write stories that he knew about shearer to bring down his god like status. Also confirmed that Martin O'Neil was originally lined up to takeover straight away after Souness's departure, but more tests on his missus and the vacant England job held up his decision. Now the tests on his missus have come back with great results he is ready to step into the role. Expect an announcement this weekend, monday at the latest. New to me.. but John Terry was on his way to Newcastle (was waiting for flight from heathrow) on the day that Abramovich took over. Romen ordered that that all buying/selling must be put on hold. Terry even revealed this in an interview with Oliver, but has requested it not to be written as would upset the cockneys. Woodgate was sold to make way for Bobby's audacious bid for Rooney, was real bid and almost got him. Fecking Man U! Was only some of the gossip he freely gave up. As for steve howey.... Nowt to say.
Re: Alan Oliver spills beans All of it seems quite plausible aprt from this: obviously we don;t ever get to know the real personalities of footballers/managers but we get a pretty good idea and i do not for one minute think that bobby robson would be underhanded like that, especially to shearer. but if that terry story is true.......that fucking russian!!!
This was the one bit of info that shocked everyone. It was a formalish dinner that you paid to attend with Alan Oliver & Howey as giving banter and open forum for questions. May have been going for shock to get him more after dinner speaker jobs but was to a room full of people geordies who obviously are gonna spread the gossip. So in my mind a) he couldn't have been lying, b) shearer already knew for some time (welcoming souness with open arms & influential with shepherd?), other bits covered Gay footballers at Newcastle & Souness's lack of time for them. refused to comment but someone nearby shouted up "Do you mean Primrose!" (aka Ambrose). Shearer though one of Bobby's biggest mistakes was getting rid of Nobby and did a Roy Keane and slated the youngsters. Another good one is the text messages Shearer received about his wife from Bellamy (Was on the golf course showing people as he received them) "A Bit Graphic" supposedly? Bellamy's birthday drinking bash at Beyond the day after Souness imposed an alcohol ban where they went through dozens of bottles champagne and bellamy sustained a back injury when he fell off his chair.
