    Airline Hell

My mam went to greece yesterday and today she found out that the airline she went with has just went bust.

now she's gotta organise new flights home otherwise she's stuck. people might stop flying because they may not return with the same airline!

    first text off mother:

If she's "de-packaged" her hol to get it cheaper she probably isn't coverved on her insurance either. Unlucky if she did.

Hopefully she booked through a travel agent and took their insurance though. If she did she's got a far better chance in getting some of her money back.

If she paid with a credit card she'll get the money back from what she paid for the flights.
What Granty has said regarding insurance may not be true, it depends on her policy entirely.
Tell her to get in touch with a major airline(not charter) like BA, Iberia etc, they will most definately be offering some sort of rate to XL(i'm presuming its them she booked with) customers as long as they can fax or Email their receipt to them.
Out of interest mate, where abouts is she, I may be able to advise you some more.

You're right, some policies may cover her. I always take insurance with the agent though. Possibly because it's my lass ;)

However I hear of all the shite some people end up in when trying to budget on hols. I don't know why they don't just pay that little bit extra for the security.

Yeah, I sell holidays for British Airways mate.
Most of the free insurances you get with credit cards etc are gash. Its best to go with a decent broker.

A woman at work booked the whole holiday through them, was meant to be going to Egypt next month. She's been ringing about all day trying to arrange a new holiday etc whilst trying to make sure she gets her money back.

The bank and Inland Revenue are always the first to be paid by the creditors.

The likely hood of getting a full refund if you paid by cash is pretty slim id imagine. Credit card will be fine.

She paid by card, it's just the hassle of trying to get it all refunded etc and sort out a new holiday for the same period and work when the holidays next month.

she booked everything through thomas cook and she said that they're all quite calm about the whole ordeal.

they said that the only flights that they are being offered at the minute are 3 days after the original departure date - so thomas cook have paid for the extra 3 nights at the hotel.

however - insuranced up to the eyeballs

They'll be fine. Its charter airlines and low cost ones that'll go down the pan.
