    Advertising Promise?!

Ive only been to Promise three times so im no expert but each time ive been it's not been overly busy! Ive heard a lot of people saying this too. "It's not as busy as it used to be!" "Promise is dying!".

Ive not read all the posts but ive heard that there might be a change in the dj's? From Trance 2 Hard House? To bring in a bigger crowd?? (Correct me if im wrong)

Now ive been clubbing 2/3 years and ive been to a fair share of big name clubs and i travel round the UK (not just for clubbing) a lot and quite often see these 'big name' clubs being advertaised!

Thinking about it the other day - Ive never actually seen one advertisment for Promise? No flyers from other clubs, bill boards, magazines etc I know that some of these prove to be rather on the expensive side but have you considerd doing so?

Maybe that would help towards the attendance rather than changing the club's 'music' ?

    Just a thought! :)

I get the impression that Promise have quite a minimum amount of advertising mainly because word of mouth has done it so much good. The fact it is held at Foundation on a Friday also gives it a massive head start with promotion. Apart from the website, the only other promotion I've seen is through flyers and posters in shops, cafes, bars and the flyering on the streets and around the Uni's. I think they keep it basic because they can at present.

A lot of Promise Followers also go to other big name clubs to - It doesnt take you two minutes to find out who's going where this weekend just off looking on this board, so how about people doing the flyering for free?

I came out of promise and i got a promise flyer for the following week - It's good for telling me who's going to be on in the following month but why waste a flyer? Advetise ONE or TWO posters a month on the wall's for the following months dj line up and use the rest of the flyers to give to clubbers outside other Big Name club's?

we were given a promise flyer after sundiss the other day...granted it was for the hull night but suppose its still advertising promise

ive also seen them in flyer packs that ive picked up outside of crasher but in general i agree that it isnt advertised as much as other clubs like gods and crasher

but thats what sets promise apart, the fact that it isn't like gods or crasher.

advertising can't harm the club but at the mo i recon the customer base for promise is just fine.

The problem with mass advertising is that every Tom, Dick and Harry turn up at your club and your club ends up over run with shit.

On the other hand if the club isnt doing well enough with just word of mouth and reputation maybe it is time to re-think your marketing strategy.

Suppose - Promise isnt open all night and when i do get the chance to come up it's easy 'cos i just stay at John's rather than have to travell straight back @ half 3 in the morning!

I know ther's always post's about it staying open till 4 but would they not consider staying open till later? This does reflect all on the amount of money Foundation or whoever want to spend on promise.

The problem with Promise is it maybe focuses on and relies upon a local crowd far too much. Just like this board, you get the impression if you're not local, you're not in the 'in' group, so people don't necessarily bother, the same could be said about going to the club. Everyone should be equal.

People may think Promise directs all it's time on its locals so how is anybody else suppose to feel like their pound is valued and appreciated, they'll go elsewhere.

You can't blame 3am/4am finishes as the reason why people won't venture up because I know clubs all over the country which are exactly the same and they don't have a problem getting them in, a very mixed crowd of locals and from all over.

I think Promise has labelled itself as a local club probably from the very start, how it gets itself out of that who knows. Getting a wider coverage with Goodgreef will no doubt help it.

    well said shaun...

working with GG and others, and doing nights around the country will hopefully help reomove the 'local' stigma thats attatched. more people will hopefully find it more accessable.

and what a bloody good nite is was too, a few people i spoke to there havn't been to promise yet, but i recon that nite worked a treat as a promotion for what promise has to offer.

working with goodgreef could attract a bigger crowd as it holds nights in wakefield and manchester could bring followers up from there. It will be interesting to know how hull goes if it is a big success story this can only be good news for promise@foundation as people may travel further as they have a better idea of the sort of sound promise is. Wait till the birthday it may take till then to kick start the year if the birthday is good and attracts a lot of people they'll keep on coming back.
