    Adaware Problem

OK so this usually works for me, but I just downloaded a new version of MSN Messenger Plus, which of course comes bundled with a bunch of shite (to be precise..that "mysearchbar.com" thing)

Got Adaware going, it quarantined all the mysearchbar stuff (and other random shite). However, now my pc is going slow as fuck (ie. takes about a minute to open My Computer), and that search bar is STILL THERE!!

I know someone out there knows the answer to this problem...help me!

    Re: Re: Adaware Problem

 NOT the answer I was looking for.

There are several reasons for MSN plus...I can have custom names for people, can send longer messages instead of it cutting me off after 3 lines or so, and some other reasons.

I've had msn plus for ages now, I don't see why it's doing this now. I'm convinced it's something that Adaware has deleted/fucked up

    Read it, doesn't matter anymore.

And the searchbar DEFINATELY came with msn plus. MSN plus has nothing to do with microsoft/msn, and they say in the installer that you have to agree to get this searchbar thing.

I just restored all the quarantined files from adaware and went through the normal route I use for this searchbar thing, using their own uninstaller :D

    Paul...go here....http://lop.com/help.html#uninstall

Click on the link for the uninstaller, I save it so that I can use it if I ever get the searchbar thing again. Then open it (while your browser is open) and click "yes" or "ok" or whatever for the 3 boxes that pop up. Close all browsers. Open again, sorted

I thought you weren't trying to be patronising? Thank you for all those tips which I already know and follow. I'm not an idiot, Norton watches over my pc, I use adaware, I NEVER download any old crap, I got msn plus because it's something that enhances a program I use regularly.

And thank you, but I do know what a popup is. Though I rarely see them thanks to my google bar :king:

Here' comes the scienfitic point of view.....

i've decieded Ad Aware was crap. it wouldn't remove some dodgy bit of software that kept editing my hosts file. even if i deleted it, it would be re-created with a load of dodgy IPs in. So i've swapped over to Spybot (which someone else on here recommended) and it got rid of it. if you're having bother with Ad Aware - try this one - see if it's any better for you.

Also - Norton? 'looking after your PC' - sounds like an oxymoron to me.

Only AV Program i ever run is Trend Micro Housecall online which doesnt require it to be installed (much) and hence doesnt bog your entire system down with useless GUFF.

I admit i do use ad aware since it only requires a few clicks - so its good for 99% of us, but i do get the feeling that the more popular it gets ... the worse its going to get.

same here... i only use housecall too - it's very good - even over a dial up connection. Try Spybot after Ad Aware - it found more things that Ad Aware must have missed.
