    A1 Racing

A1 Grand Prix is the brand new FIA-sanctioned motor racing series which pits identical racing cars representing different nations against each other in races across the world.

The championship is the brainchild of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, a member of the Dubai ruling family who saw an opportunity to create a series that puts the emphasis on driving skill, with teams backed by countries rather than manufacturers.

All cars are painted in their national colours and are raced by drivers of the team’s nationality. The 12-race series begins at Brands Hatch on September 25 and finishes in China on March 26.

Has the potential to be a hell of a lot more interesting than F1

at first glance i thought this was a brilliant idea  don't know too much about it but seems to be good. the only thing is that since all the cars are exactly the same whoevers in the lead just needs to stick to the racing line n they won't be overtaken cos they've all got the same power?

i duno, hope that's not the case, i'll be watchin it for sure!

Nah the A1 cars have got a turbo button, which gives the engine an extra 60 bhp or so. Perfect for overtaking! Obviously there is a limit to how many times you can use it, but still . . . Vrrrooooooom!

a1 cars are much narrower than those in f1, allowing for more room to overtake. Also cars with high downforce create a large volume of 'dirty' air behind them - meaning that cars following and trying to pass lose downforce, become difficult to drive and therefore have to drop back. This often leads to processional racing with little passing.

The A1 car has been specifically designed to create a very small pocket of dirty air behind it so that cars behind can get closer, allowing more chances to overtake. Additionally, the front wing has been designed to work particularly efficiently in close proximity to the car in front.
