A good PC for games for under £1500?

I'm posting this on behalf of a m8 who seems to think i know about computers these days

He basically has £1500 to spend on a new pc that he will be using for games. He has his eye on a Mesh atm.

He's not that bothered about speakers, but wants to get the best graphics card/memory combo that he can. hard drive over 250 will be fine and a 19"+ monitor is a rough guideline as far as main features go.

    Anyone?

You are better posting this on overclockers, someone will spec a full system on there to match any budget, they know what they are on about as well.

I only read up on what's good when I actually want to buy a new box, I'm waiting for Vista to go gold before I get a newun.

Your mate might want to consider doing the same actually, it's a silly time to buy a high spec pc if he can wait until January IMHO.

    Vista?

I bought the majority of my stuff from OCUK when i built my pc but that was a few years ago now and like you said, we don't all keep track of whats hot or not unless we're planning on buying. In otherwords i couldn't tell a graphics card from a hotdog these days.

Vista is the new OS from microsoft coming out early next year apparently..

CPU wise I'd wait for the quad core intel Kentsfield chip.. I've seen a few previews and a guy has one over at xtreme systems and they look the dogs.. In fact I am waiting for one :D

Not sure bout the mb side of things.. I think the only chipset out that supports these, and conroes, is the Intel 975..

DDR2 RAM will be required for these..

You can pick up 250GB+ HDD for around 50 - 60 these days.. so 1 or 2 of them will be fine..

Graphics cards are the more expensive component and it depends upon how much of a gmer this guy is.. I'd probably get a 7900gt or a 1900 or similar though..

Everything else is easy to spec though :)

So maybe he'll be better off waiting to spend the money on the newer stuff coming out at the start of next year? Or even better wait and get the spec he can afford now for a few hundred less..

    I'll let him know.. cheers!

I think it might be a good idea waiting for quad core.. If the quads are too expensive then it should still knock the price of the conroe chips down a touch..
