    A Ban On Alcohol Advertising.

My question is; Really, honestly, will this actually have any effect on underage drinking/alcohol abuse in England?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6390663.stm

expert perhaps in science, but not fucking sociology or bastard finance either! if they go ahead on this Gilmore will be responsible for huge losses in revenue.

Nice article in the Guardian on this one:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/sep/08/ad-ban-devastate-media-industries

you'd think they'd take away the 24hour licensing thats recently been introduced to tackle this - however they'd rather take away ad's off TV and sport? funny that. government get a fucking bucket load of revenue from premesis licensing, but it's probably a 'better' idea to stop advertising instead. yes i can completely understand that. :dongcopter:

    WKD will suffer from this..

I didn't read the article(s), but I fail to see how 24 hour drinking has anything to do with underage drinkers.. Surely 14 year olds aren't out at 4am getting pissed in the clubs with their pocket money.

And of course the government wants to keep getting as much money as they can.. people shouldn't be shocked by this these days :p

I doubt it'll make any difference. The parents are to blame, not the drinks ads.

When will people realise that unless something is banned, shoddy little tactics like this aren't going to make a difference. Youngsters are always going to wanna drink alcohol as long as the older/other people around them do. And until getting drunk stops being fucking funny, I can't see anything changing :p

I knew when the anti smoking lobby triumphed that the next thing in their sights would be alcohol. They claim it's about health but it's not. It's about trying to stop any activity which renders the workforce less productive and less efficient drones for the capitalist machine. you watch. I guarantee in ten or 15 years time they will have brainwashed us all into making drinking something that 'cool' people don't do and drinkers will be as stigmatised as smokers are now. If you would have told me 15 years ago that smoking would be banned in pubs I wouldn't have believed it. Drinking will go the same way.

who wants to do responsible drinkng? sometimes it's nice to just have a couple of pints down the pub and go home early . But sometimes when you are in the mood it's good to go and get off your kite. As long as you don't get violent I don't think it's anyone elses business if you want to do that. And Guardian readers get more pissed than Mail readers
    IMO

No chance..Britain loves getting pissed too much to ever stop. Are you suggesting that pubs are goin to ban alcohol in the next 15 years?? I think the smoking ban was a good idea, your clothes dont stink after a night out, i work in a pub aswell it would do my head in if people were smoking while i was working.

I don't know how old you are but NO ONE who worked in a bar would have come out with that statement 15 years ago. You have bought into the whole anti smoking lobby worldview.

I think that pubs will be selling tea and coffee and strictly limited amounts of very expensive alcohol and that people who get drunk will be socially as looked down on as the smokers you despise.

" I think the drunkeness ban was a good idea, your clothes aren't covered in sick after a night out, I work in a pub as well it would do my head in if people were pissed while I was working"

never underestimate the power of indoctrination

Well they might have done. Whether or not it should be banned he's got a valid point. Stinking of smoke is fucking shit.

Sorry like forks but that was a pretty poor, emotionally charged post. Your 3rd paragraph isn't really relevant and doesn't make any sense.
