4 gig ram used to have 2 gig ram then bought another 2 gig of the same ram thinking it would fly... on closer inspection ive found that everyone says theres little to no increase past 2-3 gig, simply because windows cant handle anymore, any true behind this? ram should be delivered tomorrow
im running vista 32 bit which will only recognise 3.5gig, so i think a trip down x64 is the way forward, bet all my applications fuck up tho
apparently vista 64 bit is gash a you cant override whql and install some hardware that hasnt got certified drivers. ffs never easy is it
I use vista 64 with 4gig of RAM. Unless you are doing some serious media editing or playing Crysis there is no point IMHO. It is true to say that 32bit OSs cannot address more than about 3GB of RAM.
classic fanboy comeback Seriously though, I can understand wanting to use windows for gaming but other than that i think there are other, better options. just personal preference really thoguh
99.9% of the world use it at work so most people are familiar with it, it's the most widely supported product out there, etc...etc..etc.. it's always cool to slate the successful big boys
Surely there's nothing cool at all about talking on a message board about computer operating systems?
I use it for gaming at home because there are no other serious options. We use it at work as it's what we have always used. If I was to start again I would seriously consider using OSX for all desktops. We use linux for the vasy majority of our backend systems.
I would do the same if i could afford a gaming pc - have to stick to xbox/ps3 or i'd get divorced for the amt of cash i'd be spnding!!! I use linux as a mian os and recently got one of the new imacs and am pleasantly surrised with how smoothly it runs. I was planning on installing linux using bootcamp and using that but osx is running very smoothly so I'm not that bothered anymore...
so your like 1 of the 10 that are using linux these days? plus all the new PC game releases are being optimised for windows. thats my reason. oh, and the fact that i've used it pretty much all my life.
apparenently the /3gb switch doesn't make any diff as it's an OS limitation due to being 32bit, and other devices need memory address space too
got the ram, installed it... showed up at 2.7 gig then periodically blue screened. superb, well done to ms, this 64 bit computing is a nightmare, not many people cater for it. what a waste of money
hmm now thats an interesting point because I was actually considering buying vista 64bit for my new pc when i build it I take it it was Vista? The thing is I thought when developers said that there wasn't much support for it yet, was that there weren't many things taking full advantage of the 64bit os, but that 32bit compatible hardware and software should still be fine?? (perhaps i'm talking bollocks mind) I'd do a bit more research on it mate cos plenty of people run 4gb+ ram
yeah vista ultimate 32 mate id have thought that, basically it should be able to revert back to 32 bit if 64bit wasnt required. im left with a dilema, stick in 64bit and the 4 gig ram and get rid of the tv card for a smaller supported one, of stay put and not use the ram. leaving the ram in just leads to blue screens
