    yes they do

think summit like 25 meg is standard in homes and 100mbps fibre is available.!!

    look at this though...

The world's fastest internet connection will let users download Encyclopaedia Britannica in less than seven seconds.

Most broadband connections operate at a speed of 2Mb/s, but the Shoreditch project (the world's fastest internet) work at a speed of up to 2Gb/s.

The ultra-fast internet trial which will make it possible to download full-length movies in an instant comes as BT announces plans to upgrade its exchanges so as to roll out line rates of up to 8 Mbps.

as for the 26mb. It's ADSL2 basically and you pretty much have to setup camp in the exchange to get those speeds

most people are to far away from the exchange to get anywhere near that unfortunately :(

cable is where it's at as there are no real restrictions as long as the networks in place

ntl are trialing 100mbit currently ;)

Yup, its only a matter of time before cable absolutley leaves ADSL (even in its '2+' form) for absolute dust. Although Bri - i'm sure ADSL2+ has a far greater range than ADSL?

HOWEVER I can't see BT getting too worried because in many cases where there is ADSL there is no Cable anyway so it's not as if they will lose all their business since some people have no choice in the matter...like me!

The majority of people however have no idea of the differences between the two services and will not accept that their BT Openworld can't be 100mbits  But they will just have to deal with it. Or move to within spitting distance from their exchange.

Anyway, you can only get SO fast on a home line, after which the increase in download speeds will start to go down with each upgrade...at the end of the day you could have a 2gbit connection but it aint gona get full use on p2p etc and loads of websites as their upload link speeds won't be anywhere near that, which is a point which many people overlook.

26mbits would be nice but I'm pleased with my imminent 4mbit upgrade which *apparently* will be up to 8 by summer as the exchanges are re-graded (....again). Even then though, I probably won't be able to download lost any faster
