    21/7/2005 London bombing trial

    Is anyone following this trial?

I had no idea they got so close to doing it!

They were on the trains, with the bombs and pulled the triggers - the only reason they didn't blow up was because they cocked up their chemistry. Vicious bastards had loaded them with nuts and bolts for added injury.

Throw away the key? I think so.

see if they had just done science instead of the koran then they might have succeeded.

Oh but then they wouldn't have wanted to do it in the first place:D

It was quite worrying how simple the ingredients were that they were gonna use to make these bombs.

Something like flour, hair bleach, acetone and some acid. Anyone with an axe to grind about anything could do it.....

.... the sad thing is these attacks only end up with innocent people getting killed, and increased hatred towards muslims etc. No government is going to change policies or rise to any threats like these.

Its quite shocking to think your own country is attacking itself pretty much.

"It is...dangerous to go out, particularly at night, because rapists, paedophiles, schizophrenics and knife-wielding youths lurk round every corner, and drunken yobs roam the streets. The country is overrun by eastern European migrants. Veiled and bearded Muslims are plotting deadly atrocities. Our children are sexmad drug addicts. Law-abiding motorists are in mortal peril from speed cameras and traffic wardens. The schools don't teach anybody to read, and an orangutan could pass an A-level. Go into hospital, and you will catch a deadly disease or, if you are old, possibly starve to death".
this is what they want us to believe.

its very irresponsible of the press to reveal the contents of the bombs, they've shown how easy it is to make a destructive device and will probably encourage a load more loons to get involved

security on the Tube isnt tight at all so unless MI5 know exactly who is going to be doing the bombings then i cant see how they are going to stop people blowing up a train

quite frightening really but what can you do

They could just pop it into google and find out just as easily.

Mind you, I suspect the type of person we are dealing with here might struggle even with this

It's all a bit irritating really, I don't see why they can't just not want to kill themselves and me.

Whats your point? Other than drawing a parallel between the current situation and that of the IRA/Thatcher days?

my point is that the powers that be always need a bogey man to frighten us with and use that fear to keep us docile. The enemy within was the miners then.
now it's the muslims. it used to be the 'yellow peril' in the twenties who were spiriting our pure young white girls away to be sold into white slavery. This was a 'fact' known to all and pushed in all the papers.

yes these individuals could have caused death and destruction but there are always disafected groups like this from the anarchists at the turn of the century to the communists to the black power extremists but we are always led to believe that death and destruction await us around every corner and only a 'strong' government with 'tough' policies can save us.

I just think we should not get swallowed up by the hysteria that surrounds this trial and be seduced into giving up our freedoms to combat a 'new' threat which in reality has always existed

I agree that any loss of freedom must be kept to a minimum.

However you have to accept that a great many people have lost their lives in the name of extremeism on both sides. I am happy to have my bag scanned, I am happy to go through a metal detector and I am happy to be searched if necessary to reduce the risk to myself when I am flying.

Indeed, a number of these arguments are very easy to weight up - there is no way I would be happy knowing that someone, any one person, died in order that my e-mail not be read or something.
