And before Joe has a go, my position is that we should be negotiating from a position of strength, and using special forces if that fails

I agree, using the lads should always be a last resort. I don't think the Iranians will be daft to enough to go up against them again...we'll see though.

Not quite. But something other than 'Give them back or we'll do nothing'.

It would be suicide to start on the Iranians now - they have soviet weapons, a nuclear programme and a massive army.... Imagine Iraq but ten times worse.

... Having said that - Iran now trades 60% of its oil in non dollar currencies - a worrying situation for America since the trading of oil using its currency is probably the only thing keeping that afloat at the moment. With that in mind, like Iraq, they are a prime canditate for 'regieme change'.

It would be far less suicidal to disarm the regime now than it will be in 10 years...

We don't need to topple the regime like we did in Iraq, we merely need to take the wind and nuclear capabilities out of the sails.

We are in the perfect position to do this now as we have military bases in Iraq and around the middle east.

Why do we need to 'take them out' in the first place....?

I thought Iraq and Afganistan (2 countries ruined for the next 2 decades at least, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives and billions spent) would have taught us that 'sending in the boys' in the name of western imperialism and globalisation was.... A HORRIFIC IDEA.

    Nay? ;)

nothing to do with western imperialism, they're a "young-germany",a rising giant focused on flexing its muscle.

The current regime seems fixated on showing the strength of Islam and have accelerated their military industry to a point where its one of the most advanced industries in the developing world.

They're clearly a threat to global security (from their language regarding Israel to their seizure of troops in foreign waters; from their sponsorship of terrorists in Iraq & Lebanon, to their sponsorship of anti-western sentiment).... they need to be stopped in their infancy.

Iran has a long way to go before it matches the current headcount of Bush and Blair in their jaunt in Iraq right now.

Besides - is starting ILLEGAL wars par for the course these days, or are we actually going to abide by the international treaties we set up to actually STOP countries invading willy nilly?

.. i have read some people predict an Israeli pre-emptive strike against the Iranians to kick it all off - whats your thoughts on this?

If Israel takes out Irans nuclear facilities the only thing it will trigger is an increase in Hamas/Hezbollah Persian investment.

Iran can't attack the west... they threaten the world in more complex ways.

I couldnt' give a fuck about international invasion law... it doesn't work.

'Iran has never attacked any of its neighbors in the region in the past 300 years, even when it was badly provoked in 1998 by the Taliban in Afghanistan, which had a much smaller army'
