    Âme mixes Fabric 42

Âme, the duo behind mega-hit 'Rej', will mix the next edition in the Fabric series.

Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann started their musical career on Sonar Kollektiv, encouraged by Dixon, who signed their debut EP to the label. The label's free-thinking approach is apparent in the tracklisting for Fabric 42, which takes in a monologue from New York outsider artist Moondog, the ultra acidic sounds of Armando's 'Don't Take It' and the deep house of the duo's newest single on Innervisions (produced in collaboration with Dixon and Henrik Schwarz). Beyer and Wiedemann describe the release "a bit more electronic and experimental than some people may expect." Judging by its tracklisting in comparison to the duo's previous mix CD, Mixing, we wholeheartedly agree.

    Tracklisting
    01. Linkwood – Hear The Sun
    02. Even Tuell – Untitled B1
    03. Minilogue & KAB - That’s A Nice Way To Give Me Feedback
    [Wighnomy Brothers Quintenzirkel Remikks]
    04. Jens Zimmerman – Moddodblubbblub
    xx. Moondog - Moondog Monologue
    05. Mixworks – Berlin Dub
    06. Armando – Don’t Take It [Thomos Edit]
    07. STL – Something Is Raw
    08. Edward Ft. Justus– Raw Structure
xx. Those Guys Ft Ras Baraka – An American Poem
    09. 76-79 – Six Ten
    10. Henrik Schwartz/Âme/Dixon – D.P.O.M.B [Version 1]
    11. Matthew Styles – We Said Nothing
    12. KB Project – The Symphony
    13. Gowentgone - M.A.M. (Marcel Dettmann Remix)
xx. Broken Compass – Australiapella 2
    14. LFO vs Fuse – Loop [Fuse Mix] – Plus 8

Fabric 42 will be released by Fabric on September 15, 2008 in the UK and will make its way to the US in October.

The Fabric CD's recently have been fairly good, so hoping this will be more of the same. Havn't heard a mix from Ame in quite a while....

14 tracks on a 75 minute cd is pretty weak if you ask me

dare say there's plenty of djs on this board could turn out that mix no problem, just don't see where the dj talent part comes in that separates ame from just another quality producer that can mix a bit?
far too common in house music these days producers charging promoters silly amounts of money cos they have a name but don't do anything locals couldn't do behind the decks imo :(

i'm lost stu. how does the number of tracks mean if someone is a good dj or not?

    djs have different mixing styles..

    cos I say so :p

n'ah I'm sure he's very good but when I see less than 17-18 tracks on a 75 minute retail mix cd I just don't see where the effort went on the djs behalf? I reckon Scott, Mark or Si could do that mix no worries

it's pretty easy to mix tunes at the start and end it's when djs know their tunes inside out and layer them and whatnot then I'm impressed and you get like 17 plus tracks to a mix cd, to be fair I know nowt about this kinda stuff and if it's what the fans like then cool, I reckon it's all a bit easy though

also I'm quite tired today and i'm probably just being a little bitch

i guess you would need to hear it first before making a call on it? unless you know all the tracks think its impossible to judge based on the number of tracks used..

averages out about 5 mins a track which to me is about right and totally normal for this type of style?

ame is actually 2 people as well :dunce:

    yeah i'm just bitching really

I like this kinda stuff and agree to judge it fairly I'd have to listen, I bet it works really well and imgine they've put alot of work into getting it to flow right,
you know me though I like carter, sneak, farina, justin long, honey dijon , heather who are constantly mixing when they play, as a dj I find that more impressive than just playing good tunes, they do both, work hard when dj'ing and play wicked tunes

guess my point is if ame and alot of other producers didn't have success as producers would they be getting mix cd deals/bookings to dj?

it's the whole dj vs producer thing again, if you have a successful track or two as a producer suddenly you get dj bookings flooding in and they usually play the peak set which is easy just play the big tunes back to back and everyone goes home happy, but somebody who comes through as a dj like Heather or Farina will do some amazing stuff behind the decks when they play, put on a proper show of technical ability as well as play the good tracks knawhattamean?

to be fair though I shouldn't single ame out for this there are far worthier candidates out there, i'm just being a tired grumpy c*nt:lol:

understand your point about producers getting gigs off the back of tracks. but thats just the way it is. punters obviously want to see these producers dj so its very rare that they will not take on the bookings. in most cases they have been djing for years anyway.

with regard to ame djing - frank has easily been in the top 5 dj's we have ever booked and has wiped the floor with some 'dj's'.

it works both ways though doesn't it. dj's release tracks that are actually produced by someone else and have success/doors open because they are a already well known.
