No they didn't, it'll be in your Terms & Conditions. Up to 16 meg...

Was that problem because you didnt pay the bill? Or you couldn't understand it? Or both? ;)

I'd just go back to cable if you don't want those problems

no i payed for 16 meg then 3 days later i rang them up cause the was a problem with my internet then there told me over the phone that thats all i can get on my line 4 & half meg  which the cud told me tht before i signed up for the 16 meg one.

As for the bill think the charged us for the phone and we had the phone took off months ago so the put unessercey charges on our bill then the said we didnt pay the internet also but we did pay the ntl bill ' So were ntl got the charges from i dont no.

so i change over to Sky broadband been on there broadband for 2 weeks now and had no stop probs the internet goes off all the time and takes ages to come back on ' i never had that problem with ntl and we dont ow any money to sky either.

had some problems with my sky broadband order but it moved over on the right day without any loss of service and has been spot on since then. wireless is working very well and have not been offline once (used to get kicked off every few days with pipex).

and it's free (sort of) so cannot complain.

    Danny,

are you getting 'free' (i.e. base, mid or max) sky broadband in Newcastle??

I'm in Jesmond & when I signed up to them in November I was told I could only get the "connect" package which at the moment is costing me £17 a month... maybe I should get on the phone...

You should definately get on the phone mate, I kept getting emails offering me that package for £17 a month. I decided to wait and see what my options were tho, and got offered the same "connect" package the other week for only £5 a month.

They do say "up to" 16mb. Sky would not have failed to say that either directly or somewhere in the terms. Even the website says "up to 16mb"

No ADSL provider can guarantee every customer a 16mb line.

In reality, only a small percentage of UK residential lines (especially in the north) will be able to take advantage of the full speed - it depends entirely on your distance from the exchange. Bear in mind it's coming over cable that is probably decades old....

Oh and don't bother with AOL, it's shite. Proper shite. I've been on a few jobs where the person has had AOL. On every occasion when i've installed a router for them, the router shows it's status as "disconnected" and yet you can still get on the net...weird.

I would say stick with Cable. After all....If you can...you should.

Re: Re: Re: Stupid Sky Broadband

ADSL connections are always variable due to many different factors including, but not restricted to, distance from the exchange and amount of users in given distance.

Cable on the other hand is different.

NTL = Telewest = Virgin Media.
I've not had a single problem with them in about 6 years.. bills are fine and you pay for a grade A service.
