new laptop my computer has eventually gone totally tits up at home, HD is knackered, processor is crap anyway though, it's about 5 years old! decided to get a laptop seen this Acer Aspire 5101 it's probably the best i've seen for that kinda money. any other suggestions would be good though i was just wondering if i need to do anything to transfer my licence for XP operating system to my new laptop when i get it? do i just register it as usual or do i have to ring up and change any details? i've got no idea, and the microsoft website is as much help as a bloke with tits any help much appreciated! thanken you
If you already have a license code then just enter that in on the new laptop when installing XP. But I would have thought the laptop your buying would come with XP pre installed (probs Home Edition though)
MINE FIELD Laptops are a bitch to get ALL the drivers for, especially to run a lot of the background things, like the power saving devices, function keys etc. See what disks come with it, you'll either get 1) 1 recovery disk with everything pre-installed. 2) Windows OEM disk plus a laptop specific driver disk. if you've got a seperate driver disk - you're laughing. Otherwise, fuck pro, stick with whats installed.
The one in the link has media center and media center is just windows xp pro with all of the media bits added on. If you buy it on CD, you get an xp pro CD and a media center addons CD. If you put the media center code into XP pro, it asks for the second disk, otherwise just XP pro is installed. If you're getting the one in the link, there's no need to change the OS mate
