Council tax! Why? Why? Why?

If you check out your council tax bill a percentage , or precept, goes to the local emergency services - not a very big percentage, granted.

Everyone has the right to whinge about council tax because it seems so unfair. The fact that we are taxed so many times (pensions your taxed twice!!) and we work hard and have to house those fuckers who do nothing but claim benefits, WE pay for!

Your forgetting the council gets MASSIVE amounts of money from speed cameras which most of us dont want in 90% of the places they are put.

Obviously the tax is required and I dont mind paying it to people who are genuine claimers but imo, they could lower the bill and get rid of loads of unneccesary costs.

Dunno, they're on my council tax statement though.

I "prospered" according to you, in a school where only 25% of students leave with 5 GCSEs A-C every year. Where only 34 people took A-Levels this year and this was all paid for by our council tax.

Money well spent?

Terry my point went way above my head, without state sponsored initiatives like education our nation wouldn't be at the advanced stage it is now.

If the rest of the population hadn't recieved its education then the economy from which you draw a wage would not exist.

in the grand scheme of things local councils/the government get a TINY amount of money from speed cameras...

and its all well an good saying only those who deserve it should get benefits etc but how do you find out/decide who deserves it and who decides? you'd have to employ a large amount of highly trained people to make that idea work, which would cost a lot of money, surely being counter productive?

i bet the lucky twats in sudan/ivory coast/iraq/etc never stop to think about the poor little english people and how much tax they have to pay

The point of complaining about tax is if you think it will change it....

Cost of living here is higher in most respects than Canada for example, but then wages are higher too.

There aren't many western countries where the citizen have significantly more or less disposable income imo.

It's beyond me why anyone whinges about council tax. It's needed to keep the country running, and it's not like it's anything new. Just get on with it and pay it.

Why do u lot register with the council then? dont register or use a students details and pay fuck all.
