Martins from the BBC: Inter Milan striker Obafemi Martins says he is about to secure a move to Premiership side Newcastle United. "I'm close to moving to Newcastle despite all the initial setbacks," the 21-year-old Nigeria international told BBC Sport on Monday. "Eighty percent of the deal with Newcastle is completed." Martins has been unsettled since the club brought in Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Argentine Hernan Crespo to strengthen their forward line. Martins's agent Patrick Bastianelli met United officials over the weekend to complete transfer negotiations. A fee of £10.9m (US$20.6m) is said to have been agreed between both sides. Martins said Newcastle's determination to sign him had played a major part in his decision to join the Magpies. "Playing in the Premiership has been a long-term ambition and I am extremely delighted with the prospect of concluding that in the next couple of days," he added. i'll be pleased when the deal goes through! more excited about him coming to us than i was about Owen, he's got more than just pace unlike Owen, and isn't made of glass. doesn't look like we'll be going in for Klose, werder bremen have told us to piss off apparently
Re: Re: Martins well, i disagree to be honest. i could imagine henry still being a good premiership player even without his pace, but imagine michael owen without his pace...i don't see what he would bring to a decent premiership team. his games all about using his pace to get infront of his marker from set plays, crosses, through balls. without his pace i dont think he's be much of a threat. jus my opinion like! martins is quick, strong and good on the ball, i think he'll bring much more to the team than owen can/could
owen hasnt played too many games or scored many goals for us so i remeber almost every single one. not one that i can remember involved owen burning a defender for pace. however, there are a lot of the 7 that invlove owen's first class movement in the box, sending the defender the wrong way, using his head. he's lot older and wiser than when he first burst onto the scene when he was 18. there's so much more to his game than simply pace, trust me
Re: Re: Martins It came about a couple of years ago, some Italian journalist noticed the Nigerian FA's webiste had a different date of birth for him, making him 6yrs older. It was all cleared up at the time though, and they issued an official apology to him. Not really sure why it's resurfaced, I think it's just the papers dragging up old stories cos they're bored/lazy. He is 21 though apparently.
Re: Re: Martins he's rumoured to be 28,load of nonsense if you ask me wonder how long it'll take him to get injured
Probs fall of the plane at Newcastle Airport knowing our look, just as the ink's drying on the contract.
it moved a step closer this morning. the club has officially confirmed an offer has been accepted he just needs to agree terms and apparntly that shouldn't be too much of a problem. http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~886282,00.html
owne game is about sitting on the sidelines. Once his pace goes he's fucked. We'll never make anywhere near our money back on him and i dont think he'll ever get a full season at newcastle.
portsmouth have upped their offer to try and get him according to skysports http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx...=47&lid=2&title=Pompey+look+to+snatch+Martins
Re: Re: Re: Re: Martins i'd say he does. chelsea, man u, arsenal, liverpool and tottenham are good teams and newcastle, bolton, everton, west ham, blackburn are decent teams, in my opinion
Re: Re: Re: Martins When we played and lost to Inter 4-1 about 4years ago, he was on their bench then. I somehow doubt a 17yr old Nigerian would've be on the bench for Inter. I think it's no value for money signing. £3/4m I would say yes, but not £10m. Lua Lua is better.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Martins Why is that so implausible? Theo Walcott sat on the bench for Arsenal, and England...
