    interior design help needed

Now then, i am quite a create person and have a good eye for detail, however this has really got me stumped!!!

My landlady has said that she doesnt mind us re-decorating certain parts of the house i.e. the hallway, stairs, landing and bedroom....now there is this god awful wallpaper up at the moment which is just white and i hate it, however richie wont let me strip it off as the walls might be f**ked underneath and therefore resulting in more expense!!! So i need to try and work with it, now i have no idea what i can do, or what will look ok as the wallpaper is so bad!

    here is a sample
    [IMG]

now imagine this is from floor to ceiling white in all of the rooms mentioned before.

Ideally i would like a combination of contemorary and retro........kitsch

i am not afraid of colour, however i dont want it to give me a headache...

    HELP!

looks like woodchip, horrible stuff to strip anyways as after stripping the walls are usually still covered in the wood chippings and are a pain to remove......... very time consuming

woodchip is very retro tho..............go for some nice stencils on it in browns & oranges, 70s caravan furniture stylee

I was thinking that - draw some flowery retro style stencils on, retro light/bit of furniture here and there, could look alright

You'll be a bit stuck if you've got the textbook brown carpet though

It's not woodchip, it's just textured wallpaper, that pic is too big it's not really to scale, the texture is much smaller than that really....

but i get where your coming from with the colours, thats kinda what i had in mind just not sure exactly "what" it is that i am supposed to do???

well if you dont want to strip the wallpaper & put the proper stuff on

just design your own more simplified shapes? using same colours

the square box design in the big pic, just cut each sized box out of a A4 sheet of acetate and paint biggest to smallest which each different colour

i said i was creative, i didnt say i wanted to spend a millenium re-decorating!

i need something a bit simple as it is a large area i am decorating.....would like something a bit differewnt in the boudoir though, its a big simple square room with a dirty great chimney breast so i was thinking something simple all over but something whacky on the chimney breast

why dont u just paint some vertical stripes using them colours

like groups pf 4 stripes, of differing thickness, and just have like 5 or 6 groups of these stripes spread around the room?

    no work in that

and fuill the chimney breat up with loads of horizontal stripes in a different selection of colours

been having a play. You dont put both right next to each other like this. but say that stripy thing down one side of the chimney breast. and then to the side of the chinmney breast have the circles..it would work with squares aswell, cos thats easier when your masking taping walls. Great thing about this kinda thing, is you only really need tester pots cos your not gonna be using that much. Then do your woodwork in a white with a faint reddy orange tinge.

    Kinda likes this.
