China still in the dark ages http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4657052.stm It's amaxing in this day and age that they can ban flims because of homephobia and because Chinese actors play Japanesse characters.
I don't think that a really anti gay film would be allowed to be shown in england now. Every country has its taboos. It's just easier to see them in a foreign country
China is still learning to cope being the last bastion of socialism on a massive scale....... but in a world dominated by western, liberal economics. Having said that, you cant have a gay kiss on mainstream tv these days without the right wing tabloids being up in arms about it, or drawing attention to it. We have alot of hang ups aswell, although obviously not the extent of the chinese - but bear in mind they are only catching up with the rest of the west. We banned similar things only 30 years ago.
Re: China still in the dark ages you can still be executed in zimbabwe for being homosexual.... mugabe's fucked in the head man!:spangled:
I think it would, there's been anti gay films before hasn't there? Just like that series on C4, that had loads of anti gay stuff on didn'it?
This is true but i dont want to see gay kissing on TV! Theres a sky gay porno channel for that sort of shit.
There's been loads ofstuff like that, on the tele and everything. I think we're pretty liberal concerning stuff like that over here
well I think we're liberal too but I was just trying to say that what seems ok to one nation is not ok for another. And I'm sure it's illegal in england to broadcast an overtly racist film.
I think the media here is quite good with respects to censorship. It's good to see films that address/ show real issues, same sex relationships do exist , paedophilia does exists so why censor them? Avoiding exsposure to the issues doesn't make them go away. I can't think of any programs that have been aired that are massively predujiced towards anyting and promotes violence or hatred towards certain groups. By banning programs like the chinese have done I think it is a major step backwards
There's no doubting at all American History X is about upfront racism but the underlying story of it is the change of a man who is deeply racist to the opposite after realising the stupidity and narrowmindedness of the idea of racism
a racist film could be made and released but it would depend on how the racism is explored. if it explores social themes and trends then i cant see a problem... its when it becomes racist propoganda with no basis in fact that there may be problems.
