but if it was legalised, then the trips could be sorted out into small ones, long ones, strong ones, mellow ones etc etc?

and like you say - overdo that and its on your head anyway.

or off your head, depending on how you like to look at it

    boom boom

yes but cigarettes have been around for ages and you dont really get a high of it where u arent in control of yourself, the high of alcohol is quite controllable, but if u remember at one point alcohol was banned as well, we have learnt to deal with alcohol consumption as a society from years of use

how can people possibly deal with drugs in the same way without experimenting with them first, its trial and error, it could take years before people know what a "safe amount" to take would be, and to be honest, there is no safe amount when taking drugs imo
    it is just damage limitation

fair enough a pill every now and again wont really cause much damage to your body i dont think

but noone knows what happens 50 years down the line after having taken them, not even the smartest people onthe planet know.

we know what happens with alcohol and tobacco. Sure people can get serious heart, liver, lung problems. but that is only in serious cases, many people can quite happily drink and smoke at weekends and as long as they get regular exercise die happily 80 years of age

for all we know regular ecstacy/cocaine/lsd/ketamine users could have serious mental side effects 50 years down the line

legalising drugs would lead to a whole generation taking them ion the same way that people take alcohol and tobacco

imagine that, a whole generation mentally ill 50 years down the line,

there is no way a government is going to take that chance..not in our lifetime

You may not get a high off tobacco, but after the effects wear off ( ie, 90 percent of the time unless you smoke 60 a day), you are left less alert, with lower IQ and cognitive abilities, and more irritable than you would have been otherwise. That is neglecting the devastating toxicity of the drug that everyone knows about.

Alcohol is one of the most systemically toxic substances known, and attacks all the body's organs, from the brain to the liver and everything in between, on a cellular level. Its withdrawal symptoms can kill you.

Drugs like LSD have NO physically damaging effect: thousands of doses of LSD have been consumed at once with no physical side effects.

The hyper-addictive drugs like crack and h should be put on prescription or registered use with no criminal penalty but with the use data available for employers. Everything else should be legal and controlled.

The harmful mental effects of drugs are due to their abuse, not as a fundamental constituent of the substance. People by and large recognise this and can control it: those who cannot are largely vulnerable and / or mentally unstable to begin with; most probably already abuse alcohol or other drugs, and would not be put at much extra risk by legalisation.

Bottom line is, the problems caused by drug prohibition MASSIVELY outweigh the benefits, ethically, financially, and socially.
