You can get some strips made out of plastic that are specifically for the purpose and not illegal, as far as I know. Think they are sharp enough to hurt but not cause much damage. Try B&Q for them, or somewhere similar.

I think if you have any barbed wire etc strictly speaking you have to put notices up warning people. Something like that anyway. Best thing to do would be to talk to your local police station, or maybe your insurance company?

your local council should give you some burglar paint - free. i live in town and the city council does - give them a ring

and a little tip for you when you put it on, slop it on loaaaads - we did ours, stood back to admire the work when a cat came dilly- dallying along - nearly took the cat out
