Some third party fire and theft policies will allow you to do this also, you dont have to have comprehensive insurance. As long as you are over 25 and it doesnt state anything in your terms and conditions like *Excludes driving others cars. then you should be good to go.

    Do you have insurance already?

Just check in your terms and conditions and if it doesnt say excludes driving other cars then you should be ok, but it will say it if you are under 25. If you want to be absolutley sure then just ring them and ask.

If you are over 25, and it does say it then ring your insurance company and ask why it is excluded and if they can remove it please

Do you have insurance already? If so you should be able to add another vehicle to your policy for a limited period at a cost. Some places don't charge depending on the length of time...

If you dont have insurance already, i'm sure you can get temporary polices from some places as i have heard of it being done but i couldnt possibly name any companies. i would just ring round a few

Failing that, you can take out a full years policy (check info on cancelling policies first though) for example the AA will allow you to set u a full years policy, and if you cancel within the 1st 2 weeks they'll only charge £15 providing you dont have an accident...you can sometimes agree a cancellation when you take the policy out, like they will charge you daily pro rata for all you use on the policy, then when you come to cancel they will refund the rest back to you

Ah well make sure you PROTECT your No claims bonus, as soon as you reach maximum ncb they should let you protect it...it usually allows you to have 2 fault claims on your insurance before they start to reduce your ncb (this differs)

I meant take out insurance as the policyholder, not just being a named driver on someone else's policy.

ta lulu ... once i've got full NCD and protected - i'm off to another company - i only went with them while i had my points and 2 previous accidents within the last 5 years - and they were cheapest for 'dodgy drivers'.. now thats all gone - i can go to a normal company

hello, i work for rac insurance and we are a brooker so we have 22 diff ins companys on our panel and the best company to go with is either fortis ins or axa ins, u cant get any driver policies anymore, well ive worked here for 3 years and havent seen one but will be able too under some specialist ins but will be very expensive,

more that protect your no claims for life but is a scam

    Ha ha only joking

A lot of the companies on our panel do any driver policies, but that entitles you to have many people drive your car, not be able to drive many cars???

Ah apologies, i have read it again

HOWEVER, you cant insure someone elses car with you as policyholder as you have no financial interest in the car, unless that person is your spouse....
