britpop been listening to some old cds from school recently! i can't believe that the blur oasis thing was so close, oasis really do sound boring as fuck next to them! pulp were better than both though! jarvis cocker

Most of it was actually shite. But there are definately gems from the era. Definately Maybe is excellent. Blur around that time were utter shite, their better stuff was done before and after 'Britpop'. Pulp were always superior to both of those two, and time is showing this. Suedes firsty album was fantastic and has a lot of meaning, but they were pre-Britpop really. Kula Shaker, Sleeper, Cast, Mesnwear, Elastica etc etc were all basically shite. Each may have made one memorable tune or two, but the albums were turd, which time has again shown. I wouldnt have included the Manics or Travis in there. Id say Britpop describes this 1994-1996 period were a load of average guitar bands road on the wave of the media frenzy whipped up by the 'Battle of The Bands. At that time the Manics were making the superb 'Holy Bible', hardly Britpop? and having Richey Edwards go missing. Travis came along later.
I hated britpop with a passion, bar a few choice albums/bands - The thoughts of people singing Oasis at the top of their voices at Kiss down the big market on a monday night sends shivers up my spine. So glad it died a death!
i can still enjoy most of the blur and pulp albums (especially different class ) the oasis albums all sound way too samey to listen to more than one! i like the manics first 2 albums but dont think i bought anything after that
britpop was big in my uni years... all hold so many memories... find the live version of 'common people' from glasto - it's amazing! i couldn't stand 'country house' - 'roll with it' won for me... even though it was only marginally better...
nar, definatley maybe in '94 was amazing... whats the story had a lot of good tunes on, but wasn't as good as the first. they went tits up after that, i'm sure they do a good live show.
When Blur wrote "Country House" i'am afraid any credability they had went out of the window, a truely truely awful song !!!!
blur were class, as were pulp and oasis but the whole 'madchester' thing was better the charlatans, happy mondays, stone roses etc are all brilliant
