    shit last night at work

Just got in from DJing at a bar I work at in consett (my last night there).

There's been a really nasty accident tonight in which three people died just down the road from me which i knew shit all about, until the senior manager comes up and tells me to announce that all neasham taxi's (one of the local firms) are cancelled and to tell people to book with other firms.

This I do several times, saying that there's been an accident and thats why the taxis are cancelled (because I have several people coming up and saying I'm taking the piss).

Before I know it, the senior manager's up at the DJ stand giving me some major shit, which can be summed up as "fuck you, you're a fucking shit-stirrer, bet you're loving everyone having a good gossip, fuck you, I'm glad it's your last night here, you're a fucking twat" etc.

Thing is, I fail to see what i did wrong, I've just sat down and played the entire set back and I fail to see what's pissed him off so much. When I made the announcement, I didn't make a joke out of what happened, I kept it brief and I didn't say too much because I was aware that someone out there might have known who was involved in the crash, and sure enough (with consett being as small as it is) there were people in that knew who it was.

I don't know whether I've touched a raw nerve and really upset him or whether he's just had a bad night and decided to take it out on me.

Either way it's a shit way to end after working there over a year :(

    nightmare...

there must be something which has triggered it, simple case of miscommunication i would guess...

no, not from what i've seen. He's a really decent bloke most of the time, although I seem to have had a couple of run ins with him recently.

I'm sick of the shit as it is, thats part of the reason I quit.

Yeah, I just feel really shit right now. I can't help the feeling that I've said something which has really upset him, I suppose my problem is that I gave that place everything I got and it does get to me when I stuff up (even in a small way).

tbf I had enough before tonight. I've been ripped off more times than I can count and I have to work with a soundsystem worse than the gear in my bedroom

That didn't stop me from giving it my best every single night and trying to improve, and recently I've been rewarded by getting cover work elsewhere that pays almost double for the same hours.

It just really gets to me when stuff like this happens. Every time I put on my headphones I give my best shot regardless. I won't get drunk during my sets. I try and play the best music I can find (and thats hard in consett :p) I don't like making mistakes. I don't like slipping up. And I tend to dwell on previous errors way too much.

You're right though... there are better places out there... just gotta keep plugging away...

I'm just upset and at the same time very pissed off about tonight. Anyone who's heard me play would realise that I'm not the kind to make any jokes about this sort of thing, even inadvertantly.

I'd say one of those people out there who just has to be offended by anything must have said summat to the manager. Some people go out of their way to be offended.

Possible, but the way he was going off on one it seemed like it was something personal.

It's on the news this morning, and it's two people thats died instead of three (thats rumour for you).

    From BBC news:

"Two people have died after the car they were travelling in collided with an oncoming car in County Durham.

The accident happened on Sunday evening on the A692 as the blue Peugeot 406 was travelling towards Consett and hit a Citroen Xantia.

Driver Michael Stewart, 39, and passenger Michael Murray, 53, died at the scene. A 53-year-old woman suffered leg, back and internal injuries.

The 26-year-old driver of the other car suffered a serious head injury.

Durham Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them.

I think I know who the driver was, if I'm right he usually gives me a lift up when I work on a monday night :(

    RIP.

    sorry about your night
he was probably just waiting to have a go cos you put your notice in and that gave him the ammunition

on a sadder note, my feelings go out to the families left behind. i havent said much about this in the past but i used to be a traffic cop for 10 years dealing with stuff like this every day and its not very pleasant. i still think about a lot of the incidents i dealt with during those years. probably why i go clubbing now and get mashed to escape

its ok :) its not the first time I've been chewed out by this guy for little or no reason and looking back at it now, i made the right choice to go :)

as for what happened, its bad shit all round, everyone in consett knows everyone else, all of the neashams drivers know me and my sister quite well (and vice versa) because we're always getting taxis home from work.

Its appalling what's happened and from what Ruth's said it probably could have been avoided :(
