Car Help When I went to drive yesterday my car would not go into reverse, at first I thought that I was just being silly and it was cos I was so hungover. But then I went to drive it last night and this morning and it won't go into reverse for love nor money. Anyone have any ideas what to do to fix it?
I don't need to pull it up or down, it always just goes straight in (please don't turn that dirty)! All my other gears are working
press the clutch........... ...no,only joken....it could be the gear linkage not working correct, are all the other gears ok?......if it hasnt been doing it for a while then id say its summit small. if its been fucked for weeks, like i car i had once,ul notice oil out the side of a burst gear box, only able to drive in 1st gear...cheaper than the bus thou
nip into a garage and ask......basicaly tell them whats wrong (car wont go into reverse since today)..this way they wont think your thick n rip u off
will the gear stick not move into reverse when you have your foot on the clutch OR when you put it in to reverse does the gear not engage (like click in so you cen get your biting point??) could be the gear box itself, could be the pads not coming together properly, in order to engage the gear. probably a garage job, but i wouldnt drive it round for too much longer.
What type of car is it? Could help point you in the right direction. If it's front wheel drive, then it may well be a linkage problem. If it's rear wheel drive, the gearlever probably goes straight into the gearbox, so less likely to be a linkage problem. That's not hard and fast of course, because there are exceptions and strange linkages, etc out there!!
I had the same problem and it was my gear linkage.......i got mine replaced for £40 (by a friend with a second hand part)...it's not an expensive job, but beware greedy fat men in garages ripping you orf
