exactly....my narrow minded un-educated parp lovin brain, wouldnt be able to concentrate on the educational music shapes good old parks and wilson would be throwin at me!!

Parks & Wilson werent that bad last time i seen then. They we nowhere near as boring as i thought theyd be.

i am one of those as well who is gutted that nick warren, dave seaman, pappa etc arent regulars, but at the end of the day i fully understand that promise has to get the punters in.but just bcos evety1 doesnt love harder house, doesnt mean their opinions are worthless.
by slagging parks n wilson etc off, u r discriminating against individuals tastes in music.
at the end of the day, shindig provides a fair bit of prog these days, what with futureshock, danny howells, steve lawler, hernan cattaneo etc.
i think if diggers ever comes up here, itd be 4 shindig.
the whole point of promise is to cater 4 a mixed crowd, why shouldnt parks and wislon headline once in a while?
it doesnt all have to be trance and hard house does it?
u have to appeal to every1, otherwise people like me, who loves promise, will go elsewhere.
it shouldnt be about pleasing those on the msg board who hate prog etc. not all of us do

Whats the point in appealing to everyone when there are night that are specific to different styles of music that u can go to? If u like promise just go wehter u like the music or not. I dont go to stonelove and shit like that cause I like the music I go cause Im bloody bored when im in the house.

Its not promise's job to appeal to everyone, its promise's job to appeal to their punters... if the majority of punters aren't that keen on p & w having a main slot, it would be silly 2 give em one.

personally I'd love to see skinnyman (A british rapper) in foundation, but not promise as he doesn't suit the night.

Promise used to be a dark proggie haven, its now flashy lights, hard dance and girly trance p & w no longer fit the promise image in my eyes - unless it was for a warm upo slot and thats an expensive warm up slot

So if it's all about making money then why isn't Sasha playing every week because that brought in and pleased more punters than any other night Promise has put on!!!!

I'm sure it has and i'm also sure that there were more people in Foundation on the Sasha night than sold out suggests.

I really hope you understand how big that night was, you were the first club in the north east in just under three years to have Sasha play there. Not only that but it was a four hour set which is usually unheard of around here. Pretty big achievement i would say.

i personally cant see sasha back at promise especially when future line ups have anne savage, nick rafferty and lee haslam. he would stick out like a sore thumb IMO and while he might attract a crowd....spendin the nite in a foundation full of head noddin prog heads and bigg market monkeys who recognise his name, but have no idea what he plays, isnt my idea of a good nite out!

if u like prog so much why dont u stop trying to convert promise back to prog and venture out and visit some clubs that are playin it?

sasha doesnt play prog much,he's usually pretty full on in a club
just listen to the sasha ibiza cdrocking
and anyway youreally cannot classify his music too much cos its unique to sasha.streets ahead of the rest..

Hello again

When I originally posted the question weeks ago it was simply a question about the change of musical direction at a club that I used to love with a passion and that had built a reputation throughout the country as providing intelligent deep house music on a Friday night - something that really had never happened in Newcastle before.

I fully understand and appreciate the need for a club night to make money - thats why the promoters are in the business - they want to make money. Its simply not about music. Maybe it was when Promise started but ideals shift when the desire to make money takes over.

What you churn out every week may please for the moment but you have already lost many supporters. Whats next?? Happy hardcore revival?? School disco?? Where will your hard house..sorry hard trance fans go then?

When you started Promise, what was your mission statement?

The only clubs that are flourishing at the moment are the ones that have stayed true to their beliefs - Back to Basics, Colours, Shindig. Those that are courting changing tastes are failing or downsizing - Cream, Gatecrasher.

The message is clear. Fashion is fickle, Quality remains.

catering for all doesnt work - see cream (closed due to prog + random DJ lin-ups), Sugar Shack (odd line-ups + wank), GC (house, tech house + techno? WFT? its crasher u fools! TRANCE!!).

like u said, stick to your beliefs, and you'll do well (tiny bit of prog TRANCE + tiny bit of hard trance IMO)

Yet promise is far from failing or downsizing? I don't see your point...they're obviously doing something right?

Businesses grow and evolve all the time. Their business plans or "mission statements" change to meet the needs of their customers all the time.

I don't know why we keep having these discussions. Prog nights didn't make money. That's hardly the promoters faults? Perhaps you should address these comments to clubbers as they are the ones responsible...

Good answer and valid points. Only one question, if Promise does not stick to one musical style then why week in week out do the same type of d.j's play? And don't tell me that for example Tall Paul is different to say Mauro Picotto cos he ain't.

Promise plays hard house period, nothing else. Too many people get caught up in the trap of prog this or hard house that, it's about enjoying yourself. Unfortunately you seem to have deserted many of your earlier followers.

Last point, there are a lot of people on here who seem too quick to jump on the bandwagon of slagging proggy music off and also state they are loyal to Promise and go nearly every week. I admit although a fan, progressive music is suffering from a lull at the minute. My one question to these 'loyal' people - where were you when Pappa, Warren, Tyrant etc played??

Oh and by the way if you want to hear hard house done correctly try listening to Tony De Vit not the stuff around now
