I heard on the radio ages ago, probs about a year ago, that Gatecrasher were planning to open a venue in Newcastle. has anyone heard of this or know anymore about it??

very unlikly they did plan to open 10 around the country but they dont even make any money from the Sheffield venue

yeah they do. they have packed out hed kandi's, sundissentials and the odd crasher night aswell as the student midweeks and slummin every saturday.

the crasher trance nights might not make them heaps anymore but i doubt they care.

as for the newcastle thing...they were planning 10 gatecrasher venues around the country. not loads of crasher trance nights.

Wrong they owe millions for the refurb and not making expected profits, had to reduce prices due to competition and have to pay DJS far too much

the fact i DJed there for 2 years and i have a lot of friends who work in the office, promotions and buisness side of things

I heard they were originally planning on buying the office space that was the old BT building at swan house but I very much doubt that it would happen now.

The day it became apparent mr raine was into fleecing the paying public was don valley in 99. lots of what was promised didnt materialise.

the more and more I read these threads I have come to the conclusion that club nights should have a life expectancy like what the people in logans run did.

A red light will start flashing after 5 years and put them out of their misery. For this read crasher, sundissential, cream , trade, and a plethora of others all past their sell by date

For most clubs there is a halcyon period of about 3 years where they are at the top of their game, once the money starts rolling in they put their feet up and stop caring.

Have you ever been to Trade? If you had, you would know it has had a far longer halcyon period than three years! And its still going strong. Cream was good for far longer than that too. Nice and Shindig are still going strong (though Nice had a few dodgy years).

The trick to keeping a good club night going is to have a wide range of 'punters' who will remain loyal to the club, not just a few who will rave about it for a while and then get bored. Either that or think they somehow own the club and should therefore have a say in it. Difficult, but do-able.

what i meant in ref to trade, was that people banged on about it loads around 97 - 2000, now you hardly hear of it. Is it still going?

In ref to NICE and Shindig, whilst I love the first one and dont mind the second I would say they have both seen better days (probably will be hung drawn and quartered for saying this)

Yes it is still going. People probably don't talk about it as much now as the hard house boom has died, and Trade is pretty much where hard house started so a lot of people would have wanted to go in 1997-2000 who wouldn't have gone usually. I haven't been for a while, so I don't know what their music policy is these days though.
