British hills are racist say the PC brigade A row has broken out which could see the mass resignation of hundreds of volunteer guides in the Lake District. At the behest of the Blair Regime, the Lake District Authority which manages the 885 sq miles of Cumbrian mountain has been instructed to make the National Park more attractive to “young people, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities”. About 300 unpaid volunteers act as guides to the thousands of walkers and climbers who visit the National Park every year and help run formal training courses in map-reading, hill-climbing and seas and mountain rescue training. Events programme scrapped Now the whole programme of organised events for 2005 has been scrapped because the events do not attract enough ethnic minorities and according to Mick Casey, media officer for the Park authority “the majority who do these walks are white, middle-class, middle-aged people”. Angry volunteer guides have threatened to resign following the Authority’s decision which they claim came as a shock and without any consultation. They strongly denied any racist allegations. Volunteer guide Derek Lyon told the press that “.what are they going to do, bus in these people, or open an office in Manchester? "Why do we at least not stick with a programme that we have prepared and which we can run at no additional expense?" Natural sanctuaries The hills of the Lake District and the other areas of natural beauty remain the natural weekend and holiday havens for Britons who love the countryside and see a walk in the woods or the hills, not just as a healthy recreational physical activity. For many of the urban dwellers who take to the hills, it is also a spiritual and psychological activity to “recharge the batteries” and escape, albeit temporarily from an unhealthy urban environment and the madness of multi-culturalism. Now it seems the Government wants to enforce multi-culturalism in the last remaining sanctuaries of peace and natural beauty.

'Middle-aged people' The national park's authority said it wanted to meet government targets to attract minorities, inner city children and disabled people. More than 30,000 people take part in events every year, including 4,500 walks. A spokesman for the authority, said: "Our research shows that the majority who do use the walks are white, middle-class, middle-aged people. "The government is encouraging national parks to appeal to young people, to ethnic minorities and to people with disabilities. "It is saying we ought to focus our activities on these kind of groups." What exactly is Bullshit in Harpers post??? I read the exact same story in The Express and Times. The Countryside commission want to DISCOURAGE WHITE MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE from dominating our countryside. They want MORE ETHNICS there instead (not as well as). This was a valid thread (if a week late) but you have all discarded it because its from Harper and mentioned Ethnics!
