    Taking stuff back

Do shops let you exchange items (just do a straight swap for the same thing) that you have bought if they are faulty but you dont have the receipt? Have to take something back to the gadget shop but have no idea where the receipt is

Did you pay cash or on your card? Cos a mini statement from your bank can be used as proof of purchase.

Sure if it's just an exchange you want and not your money back then you shouold be ok anyway.:)

    Re: Taking stuff back

Yea you should have no problem at the gadget shop. I bought a bathroom radio from there, and a year later it was suffered water damage and died. Seeing as they were still selling them, i took it back without a receipt or anything and said id just bought it. and they gave me a new one. Seeing as it goes back to the manufacturer as a customer return, the shop doesnt argue as its not leaving them out of pocket anyway.

When I worked at Topman we weren't allowed to give a credit note because they said it's not a form of legal tender so if they offer you a credit note you can say no.

You can give vouchers I think but we didn't at Topman. I'd assume vouchers were different because they're the same vouchers everyone gets if they buy them. I know that's a bit contradictory cos they're not legal tender either, that's just what I got told there though so I don't acept credit notes.

credit notes are so "are you being serverd?"!!!! vouchers are always given nowadays.... unless it's a back street local place...

So what was the policy if you return a item without receipt?

I used to return heaps of stuff to Topmans for vouchers, but this was late 90's maybe things have changed since then.
