What Have you missed at foundation?? If were advertising the club (and it's many nights), who/what would you say appeared here. Who would appeal most to a stranger, or those who know their stuff. Give me a range, eg from Judge Jules, to Bez & Mani, to Erick Morillo, to Travis, to Jazzy Jeff, to Grooverider, to Ferry Corsten...... All these in the last 4 months...
yeah, i must say - as of late im liking the general diversity on show at the place... most impressive
Have at look at "Extra Events at foundation" Listed in the what's on forum. November's got live bands, drum n bass, hip hop, funky/gay friendly night and breaks nights to add to the regulars! diversity has always been the key for foundations survival, (Student night/Indie/Prog&trance/US house). Now it's going deeper and catering for so many more people. with top quality names to boot!
The main room is to big for some nights & the backroom is to small for other nights. The place needs a major refit.
Dizee,Fatboy Slim & Groove Armada live are all booked to play or have played in Newcastle within about a 4 week period these are the acts Foundation should be getting. Any chance of getting the Chemical Brothers DJing or PA'ing at Foundation?
OOH grumpy old man!! The club's busier than ever, comfortably reaching over 1,000 on thurs, fri and sat last week. The club is so much more about the atmosphere, if you don't like it then why are one of the most regular punter's??? A major refit won't change the sizes of the rooms?? unless you've a spare £1m in your wallet, just to start with. The trick is doing the best with what you are given in life!! And each promoter/night creates the best atmosphere of any club in the north east at least 4 nights a week!
nah i like the club myself, the main rooms the right size for nights such as shindig/promise, the nights that cant fill it shouldnt book the club imo, they should go for a smaller place
Keeping mum!! watch this space..... Someone else on this board knows when/if this is going to happen.
I was only giving feedback You cant knock them numbers at all. I do like it (a lot) but I am sure many Riverside regulars wanted change back in the day also its out right as clubbers to never be happy. I dont have a spare £1m in my wallet but maybe David Phelps has one in his budget. The Foundation lineups have become more varied since Stone got the job of promoting.
What have I missed?! The fucking Riverside, that's what. Oh I wish I'd been around in those days. The club had some serious lineups back then!
Can't Knock the riverside David Bowie, Nirvana, Oasis.... some serious line-ups to name a few!! The place where Shindig established it's feet in the underground clubland (can't give Bliss any credit there!) The place ran at a loss for years, relying on a group of approx 200 regulars (the co-op, or committee, however they called themselves) dipping their mits into their pockets to help keep it afloat and put on the best line-ups they could get. That's why everyone raves about the riverside, it wasn't the best venue in the world, it got sweatier than foundation could ever get(and that's saying something), the layout was suited to small gigs, the staff were all a bit "interesting", etc... BUT, it had the best atmosphere, it kinda belonged to the people, they proposed who they wanted on, everyone wanted it to carry on as a utopia. Unfortunately the club made a profit, a huge company made an approach, the committee saw nothing of the £££££'s, bitterness ensued, club reopened as foundation (ooh we don't like that!!), and it moved forward. The young trendies emerged in society, jumper folders & chicken head croppers, leaving the late 20/30 year olds with no-where to go. You guessed it,..... No I'm not that old! But used to go to the riverside a lot.
Re: Can't Knock the riverside This is the bit I meant. There were some awesome lineups at Shindig when Foundation was The Riverside.
