    Re: Trouble in Iraq !!!

My views are that you are stereotyping Iraqis as violent murderers.

Maybe they are just like us, maybe they have jobs and houses (well had) and just want to get on with their lives in a dignified and productive manner?

What on earth made you think that Mr average Joe in Iraq wants to hurt you in any way?

We invaded their country in the name of freedom* took prisoners and abused and tortured them. So yeah, I'm crying about it, it makes me even more ashamed to be from the UK than I was before.

    *sorry oil.

Its all getting out of hand did anyone see this on the news today

    US MAN EXECUTED ON VIDEO

Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq is behind the beheading of an American civilian and vowed more killings in revenge for the prisoner abuse scandal.

US contractor Nick Berg was executed on video which was broadcast on the internet.

Shortly before he was killed, he named himself saying he was from Philadelphia and had a brother and sister.

The poor quality videotape on the site showed a man dressed in orange overalls kneeling on the floor with his hands tied back.

There were five masked men behind him. One read a statement urging Muslims to take revenge over the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers.

The masked men then pushed the 26-year-old American to the floor and shouted "God is greatest" above his screams.

His head was sawed off with a large knife then held aloft for the camera.
The website said Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a top ally of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, was the man who cut off Berg's head.

Jordanian-born Zarqawi, 37, has raised his profile and status as al Qaeda's most active operational leader with a series of suicide bombs and attacks on US troops in Iraq.

A body found in Baghdad over the weekend was identified as Mr Berg.

Mr Berg's family said that they had been aware that he had been beheaded but had not known the details of his killing.

"I knew he was decapitated before. That manner is preferable to a long and tortuous death. But I didn't want it to become public," said his father, Michael.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "If this is genuine, then it is utterly repugnant and indefensible."

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! Are you for real? Do you mean all 1.3 billion of these people???

My view is that you're a narrow minded bigot whose backward views can only end up perpetuating the mutual hatred & mistrust that ends up in people cutting other peoples heads off

No, I believe there are people out there being mistreated but that has happened in every war in history. I'm not condoning it and the pics that have been released are shocking.

I just think that the average Joe on the front line is working hard and tirelessly for his country fighting for peace rather than for there oil for his country.

it's not us that has a problem with believing it - it's the people of iraq that are buying it.

I don't get your point, I agree with you but I don't see how this matters?

The whole idea that we are trying to sell* out there is that our way of life is about respect, freedom, self determination etc.

    We've failed.

    * sorry, violently force on people.

How can you stereotype a whole country like that.....?

The majority of Iraqis want peace in their country not a bunch of gun touting troups running the place!

My point is in responce to your point that "Mr average Joe in Iraq wants to hurt you in any way", well neither does the average British soldier.

There under immense pressure policing a country, I can't even begin to imagine the stress and things they have went through. We should show them some level of support.

Or do you not think that these people matter?

Not as much as the Iraqi civilians no.

If you join the army the might have to kill or be killed. You may even see some disturbing stuff. Are you telling me that any person in the whole of our armed forces didn't know this?

have they not just chopped someone head off for "revenge for the abuse of iraqi prisoners"?

they just picked some random squaddie rather than the actual people who did the cruelty. i'd say that stereotyping by media.

Neil I think its unfair to brand all arabs with that brush, just like its unfair to brand all british troops as 8 year old girl killers....

Granted the people in the video were some sick twisted evil fucks... But that isn't a reflection of all arabs.
