It's deadly silent isn't it? I was there last February...walked down under the shelter thing on one side (which leads to a walkway with windows looking out over a bypass and over ground zero) and the boards under the shelter had loads of messages and drawings saying "I miss you...." and "We will be strong" and such.

It's like as soon as you near ground zero, whether you're a tourist or a local, you just shut up for a moment while you walk past. A mark of respect I suppose.

Depends what you mean by the left hand side! But if you mean you were coming from the North (where the Stock Exchange building is) and ground zero was on your right, then that'll be the same place I went. No-one selling stuff while I was there though. Probably too cold

I've got about 3 films worth of photos of New York which I took within the space of the 4 days I was there! Was with the college so didn't do much exciting stuff...just the normal touristy things.

We went during what they called "The Blizzard of 2003!!"...worst snowfall they've had in 15years apparantly  It was up just past my knee! The snow and the wind numbed my face!

    Still...was a good experience
