    Prime Minister Ariel Sharon

Since Joe is on I thought I would post this:

Israel has assassinated Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin outside a Gaza mosque, striking its heaviest blow against the Palestinian militant group behind dozens of suicide bombings and provoking vows of revenge.

Israeli security sources said Prime Minister Ariel Sharon personally ordered and monitored the helicopter attack on Monday on the paralysed cleric, whose wheelchair lay smashed in a pool of blood after three missiles exploded

Hamas accused the United States of having given Israel the green light to kill Yassin, but U.S. national security adviser Condoleezza Rice insisted in broadcast remarks: "The United States did not have advance warning.

And let me say that Hamas is a terrorist organisation and Sheikh Yassin has probably been involved in a lot of terrorist activity himself but the key now is for the region to stay calm," she said.

Personally I think that using an Apache Gunship to kill one man is way over the top and most of Europe's leaders agree me.

I don't care what this guy has done or how many people he killed (or ordered to be killed), sending in attack helicopters to take out targets in a none-war situation is totally wrong. When will Bush, Blair, Sharon etc learn that you cannot fix terrorism by blowing people up, however much they deserve it.

If Palestinians had no weapons there would be a Palestine. If the Israelis had no weapons there would be no Israel.

And removing one person with a multi-billion $ army is?

I don't think israel have done themselves any favours by assassinating Yassin, but this shouldn't detract from the evil (good old bush word) atrocities Yassin is responisble for.

if it wasn't so serious - it would be funny. 60yr old half blind cripple in a wheel chair, trundling down the road, obliterated by 3 ARAM rockets from Apache gunships.

talk about making the job gets done properly

I was completely shocked when i heard about this - bloody Israel need to get some leaders in charge who actually care about sorting this out instead of some lame tit for tat killing spree like we've had for so long now.

The world is a more dangerous place than it was 48 hours ago.... wonderful progress we're making in the 21st century

I've got a nasty feeling this will bring things to a head and cause a final conflict in the region.

exactly... how many more 'volunteers' will they have now for jihad. Saw tv reports of them burning US and UK flags - they see Israel as siding with the western nations - they percieve it as more hate and persecution aimed at muslims. just stirs up more of a widening gap between the arab states and the west.

I hope Slobba is freed b4 the start of WW3, as I think he would be ideal for the role of commander in chief of military operations in the Balkans.

after the balls up with his trial and having to appoint a new judge after 2 years with 'ill health' and now having to re-read 100,000 pages of evidence - i can see him being released now! typical burocracy! (sp)
