I think i got scammed (almost)

    OK so picture the scene...

its 11am, u were on the piss the night before....

the phone rings, you dont know where you are, you have a headache, and your mouth is as dry as an arabs sandle in the sahara desert.

the voice is american, saying you have been "specially" selected for a holiday promotion as a result of filling in a customer feedback form.

it certainly wasnt me who filled out any form..but they knew my exact details, name, address, telephone number.....what they wanted was to bill my card for £480, the cost of one person for the trip...

....knowing full well that my card would be declinded (credit limit of 350...and i owe 280...), and simply because i couldnt be arsed....i gave them the card number.

"there arnt enough funds, we can try for a discount"

    "no its ok" says me....

anyway...eventually get off the phone and go back to bed, as they said i would not be charged again, the card was declinded...and they would not try to bill again.

I rang barclaycard today...they didnt try to bill again...but to be on the safe side, i payed off my card...and then cancel it.

daft thing is, i assumed it was all ok cos it was american....on a tv programme 2nite, it was revealed that americans are real bastards for scamming the brits....by saying they filled out a form a few months ago etc etc...my mam didnt fill out a form either it would seem.

At the end of the day, im not sure if it wasnt a scam company, they did as they said, and rang me to ask if i wish to persue a booking....i said no, and it was cancelled, nothing lost, barclaycard also assured me they would not bill me...i cancelled anyway.

the moral of the story is....dont trust the yanks....just incase any of you get a similar phone call...just thought id share that with you!

been meaning to cancel my card anyway....that gave me the excuse i needed!

Yeah, you have to watch these scams... I have learned just to say 'no thankyou' and hang up before they can go any further... if anyone has seen a film called 'The Boiler Room' then you will know how persuasive these phone calls can be...

If anyone rings you saying you have won anything... just put the phone down... simple. I hate stuff like that... bet someone is making a fortune though!

yup, and they were very persuasive like.

thing is though i knew they couldnt get any money out of me, so it wasnt that big a deal really..

...they didnt say id won..just that id get a big discount.

I rang barclays, they are actually a proper registered travel company, but it still stunk like a scam..."theres no such thing as a free lunch"

There's a few of these scams doing the rounds, some one got done at work the other day.

They call asking for sour three digit security number (back of card next to yer signuture), once they have it they start dipping into your account on a daily basis.

Never give the three digits out!

    Simon says.....

Don't give any details, specially not credit card information, to anyone you're not 100% about.

    easy peasy

I got a call few days ago from some English bint saying I'd won a £200 mobile phone after filling in a survey, i gigured it was probaably a scam straight away, but went along with it. Sounded good til I got from her I had to take a crappy 12month contract with O2. I could have walked into a shop and got a better deal so told her to fuck right off

working in lloyds i hear all sorts of mad shit- people who give out all kinds of information to people who ring thier houseabout something, really dodgy things like phoning from an international number wanting the security code on the back of the debit card and all that, people pretending to be the bank?!! some people with bank cards need a bit of common sense. should be a leaflet handed out with everycard about safety.:dunce:
