Moving abroad / Being able to work

Few questions about it, I hope some of yous may be able to answer...

When you move to Australia / USA you have to get visas / licenses to be able work.

You also have to have a clean criminal record and if you start your own business in Australia for example you have to employ two Australians in the first four years. Then there's housing, If you want to buy property in Aussie land it also has to be brand new. Seems like it's a good system for creating jobs.

Do we have similar rules for moving into the UK? Are there any?

Also, moving to somewhere like Canada, you've got to be able to prove that your skills are unique and that no one else in the country could do the job you're taking away from a Canadian citizen.

    Soft touch uk again.

Are these countries being racist in our modern PC world or protecting there people and there economy?

I understand the cost of living and property in somewhere like Australia is a lot cheaper. You'll get a 3-4 bedroom villa, pool, the lot for the price of a two bedroom flat in Whitley Bay.

I'm not saying this is directly related though. I don't understand it.

:( Did no-one watch that progarmee last night...
think it was on channel 4...a new life abroad or something!!

Was wicked..the couple moved over there and set up thier own business on an entrepreneurs visa..which simply means they give you four years to porve you can be a benefit to australian economy, if not they ship you back home!!

The coupe set up a business called Oooshka!! Lets just say he had to come home to get investors to support him!!

Its just the australian government get soooo many applications for visas every month, they have to have a strict critieria

i.e if you have ever had illness that has meant hospita treatment you are a no-no cos they assume you can get ill again and cost thier health sytsem money trying to care for you!!

Dunno why it is soooo easy to get in the uk tho!!

Yeah mate, got me thinking that it would have been a good way to increase employment in the UK.

How many corner shops, restaurants, shops do you see owned by foreigners in our towns and cities that under Australian rules would have been forced to create at least two jobs and also forced to buy new housing property to create even more jobs.

To be eligable for a Oz entrepreneur visa you must have evidence that you have had a successful business in the UK with at least £200,000 worth of company assets. Very hard way of getting into the country.

You could always marry an Aussie.

Along with Canada there's a special skills visa. I think you can probably look up on the internet to get an idea of what skills they need.

I've just returned from Oz and there's a lot of campaigning going on at the moment to reduce the amount of immigrants. They let in around 1000/2000 per week with most of them being British. The Aussies are complaining there are no good jobs left for them.

Living costs in Australia are totally different depending on where you live. Sydney and Melbourne are very expensive with average house prices being around the same as London and the surrounding counties. Loaf of bread costs around $2 but is lush!

Perth is still pretty steady, but also becoming very popular, so its only at matter of time before it levels with Sydney and Melbourne.

The Gold coast/ Brisbane and The Sunshine Coast are still very cheap. Lots of Brits move there, but because it's still pretty empty you can still get a spanking home at a good price.

Darwin and Alice Springs are very very cheap but you have to be mad to move there.

The thing I hated most about Australia is that you can only buy things cheap if it's made in Australia. If you import your favourite foods etc from anywhere else, they slap a huge tax on it to try stop you doing it more frequently. The most popular import is English chocolate because it's bloody horrible in Oz.

To answer the original question of how hard is it to get to the UK. I don't know. It must be reasonably difficult (Well, you'd hope so). Not as difficult as the USA, Canada or Australia though.

:D Ha! Should I not refer to them as Aussies?

I'm not normally one to generalise, but I must say that i found that most Aussies are arrogant wankers. That shouldn't make me racist because Aussies are mainly decendants of British & Irish, so I think I've luckily got away with that one.

USA is absolutely impossible to get into  unless you are a one of a kind brain surgeon, have millions of money to invest in business or your unmarried and under 21 and your parents live there.

My baby is going to be an american citizen but he/she can't apply for me to be one until he/she is 21....looks like i'm gonna have to get married :(
