New "Anti Terror" laws passed yesterday.

So... this one made the news yesterday, but im sure us Brits were far too concerned with HollyOaks or Wednesdays lottery to care (no offence intended to hollyoak or lottery fans)

Basically laws were passed yesterday that allows the government to essentially "CLEAR OUT" any town, area or entire city of people in response to "danger".

That might be fair enough if the nasty terrorists who ruin everyones fun plan and implement some bomb or attack... but the bad bit is that this law allows the government to decide iteself what "DANGER" means.

Basically the government could clear protesters making anti-war marches in london, or even say close down a music festival if they decided there was a "danger" risk..... it doesnt take a genius to figure out that this is open to abuse. For instance what if the government banned people from protesting next time George Bush comes to town - or the police decide they want to shut down Creamfields cause of the "danger risk" (extreme example but its possible).

    .... any thoughts?

Yep I agree too...sounds like we're getting more and more like America where they like to keep people living in fear...that some day a massive nuclear strike is going to come from somewhere (where I don't know...maybe from Saddam's prison cell or Osama's remote cave) and so they MUST have these powers.

We're so scared about all these external dangers when they should pass laws that allow us to beat up random charvas when and where we want :D that would make ME feel safer!

fookin hell you're quite switched on for a young un

it's the permanent war theory from 1984.... modern government REQUIRES a constant enemy to fear to keep the plebs subjugated.

Now the the evil commies who were gonna kill us all have disappeared we have the evil islam fanatics who are gonna kill us all.... convenient or what.

Watch the news kids, anytime they want to turn the heat up it's a new terrorist threat, tanks at heathrow, gone to orange alert blah blah blah.... they're making it all up I tell thee

Michael Moore's books should be required reading for every citizen of this country - Some have argue'd that he's just another american trying to put his opinion across but he's a refreshing change in the current world climate... which is...

    .... A COUNTER ARGUMENT

We live in a world where we more or less take everything we do for granted, and everything that happens to us, or those around us as just stuff that "goes on" - When you pick up some left wing anti establishment opinions you actually end up learning soooo much about this country and the USA that you cant help but start questioning every motive and action behind everything you see our presidents and prime ministers doing.

I would start kids off at age 4 with "Downsize this" - picked it up at xmas for 7.99.. great read :)

I think the north east (or anywhere north of the thames) has first hand knowledge of the kind of stuff that Michael Moore protests about.

He talks from his experience of being from a town that was destroyed by General Motors.... And we're from a part of the country that was destroyed by the north south divide and the reform of the coal mining, ship building and other "manual labour" industries.

Cast your mind back 10-15 years and think about what newcastle looked like.... I remember northumberland looking like something out of the eastern block, likewise with the rest of the town.
The quayside... think of how it looked in 1990-1995, it was a boarded up mess of abandoned buildings.... This is the town i grew up in and experienced whats it like to be brought up in a place where the government allows the very foundations of the area be ripped from under people's feet and left high and dry to rot in council estates etc.

So whats this got to do with Michael Moore talking rubbish - well he has an answer for "why" - which is governments who are supposed to be here for the good of the people - but instead allowing their own cities and people to suffer while lining their own pockets either by keeping the money in the south of the country, or taking tax money and using it to blow up people in other countries so we can secure enough oil to keep a few rich people alot richer.

The problem is that everyone is so scared about their own well being these days that they are scared to entertain the idea that we're supposed to be all working together on this planet for the greater good - look in the daily mail and you'll see hate and fear against everyone. Look on tv and you'll see the lottery and property programs about making huge profits on selling your house over and over to get richer and richer and richer.

I guess im a total hippocrite in that respect because yes, im in life for what i can get out of it - which means money, and more money and a comfortable life for me and my family - but it doesnt hurt to think about the bigger picture now and again to actually look down on what you stand for and where the human race is going eh ;)

To answer your question - Mr Moore cant be a bad person if he at least encourages one person in this world to think "outside of the box" once in a while.

Probably the wrong messageboard to be posting stuff like this but it beats work :)

Someone put the kettle on hew, im knacked.
